A couple semi-musical musings
#1
Just two songs I recorded over the past couple days. The first one's a mellow acoustic sort of thing, probably derived from listening to too much Jack Johnson. Pretentiously happy. Tongue

I won't harbor any ill will if you guys hate me for this next one...
It's a cover of a Silent Hill 2 song called Angels Thanatos-- I haven't actually played the game much, but a friend showed me the song from the soundtrack and it was just too cool not to cover.

Now here's the catch... Ultimate lo-fi horribly recorded trash rock production! This song is meant to sound like a crappy, clipped, over-compressed first take of a garage rock band's demo on an old dusty vinyl being played on a turntable with half-blown speakers.

For some reason I really like how it sounds. It sounds like shit, but intentionally so, and... I dunno, maybe I'm just gaining an appreciation for stupidly lo-fi stuff. Anyway, here's the link:

Don't blame me for any damage to your ears.

~Josiah

EDIT:
Here's a version of Angel's Thanatos with redone guitars, hi-fi drums and none of the layers of distortion and noise:

Since people on other forums seem to find the lo-fi one to be a bit much. :p

Hell March Redux. I guess I'm obsessed with covering this song.

Very cool - sounds much "fuller" or something than the other version I remember you doing. Smile

That other version was actually recorded by a friend; I just mixed and mastered it for him. This version is mine. :p It's not done yet though... There's a whole second half I cut out of this version because it wasn't done yet; I have a couple friends doing some absolutely ripping solos for it. (I think that's the first time I've used the phrase 'absolutely ripping')

Crap, only the sunny island file loaded. Quite nice Smile. I have wondered for a while, if I get my act together and starting to work on my fps for real, would you mind making a track for it?

Hey, sure thing. Depending on what kinda music you want, I might be willing to make you up a whole soundtrack, since I'm trying to do lots of stuff I could put on a resume sometime down the road if I ever pursue my dream of composing music for games. (Not to say that I'd just throw together random shit as resume filler; I would feel terrible for doing that. I always try to do my best Wink)

The Mick Turate project has been put on the shelf for a while. The weapon sprites was a pain in the ass and drained to much energy from me really. I will resume work on the game when some of the other projects we have is done. And we have a whole bunch of other projects and I don't think that Freemax want's or have time to do all the soundstracks.
I was thinking if you feel like helping out with some music for The Tales of Sophy II instead perhaps?

Sure, I could give it a shot. Any particular style you have in mind-- real instrumentation, tracked...? If you have a list of some of the songs you'll need, that'd be helpful too.

Sophy's gonna run around in a gothlike castle fighting monsters (much like in the first game) so something dark and not to happy would be great Smile.

What songs I can come too think of as for now is:
A title song - shouldn't be very long
Main themes - the songs playing when running around. Loopfriendly. I'm not sure how many I will need as I'm not sure on how long I want the game too be.
Battle songs - One for ordinary enemies and one for bosses.

That's what I can think about now.
