Microsoft vs Linux
#21
Well I'm afraid Lindows doesn't do it for me... TBBQ just taught me how to print in Debian Linux, so now I can do what I want. Lindows just sounds like they started with the linux kernel then just tried to build windows on top of it to support the average idiot with a computer. Thus even for a guy like me, who didn't even know what Linux was a little over a year ago, using Lindows is like saying "I can't handle a computer".

Seriously, if you wanna still use windows, why do you slag it so much? You said you even developed windows stuff, for goodness sake! Why would you do this if you hate them? And don't give me the "because you have to these days cos windows has a large market share", because I'm working for a company that only develops in linux.

Quote:The main thing is, Linux right now is not organized enough in the form of developers and in the form of code to take on the desktop market like Microsoft is

Is it more organised than your writing style? Paragraphs and punctuation help others read your posts more easily ;-)

Quote:despite what people say here, Lindows is the ones leading the way. Microsoft is not going after the Lindows name because it is infringing on windows that is the biggest cover story if I have ever heard one.

Got any facts to back that up, have a look at this recent article for information on popularity of Linux distributions. Redhat is currently leading the market, with Debian being the fastest growing distribution. Lindows fails to even get a mention after the article talks about other popular distros Suse and Mandrake.

I am sure that part of Microsofts motivation in getting Lindows name changed is that it is a competitor, Lindows are selling a competiting product to Windows after all, but they are also infringing on Microsofts name to do so. The two go hand in hand, but Lindows definitely isn't Microsofts main competition.

Quote:Unlike most distros, Lindows doeshave compatibility with all archiving tools including rpm and will work with anything that you can do with Debian and a lot of others.

Most of the well known distrobutions such as Redhat, Debian and Mandrake support a wide range of packaging tools such as rpm, tar.gz, deb, apt and emerge.

Guyz, Microsoft is known to crush its competition and monopolize the market =(. So I dont think its very suprising that Microsoft entered into this legal dispute with Lindows. Think about Java, Netscape Navigator. Whenever they have had a competitor they either buy up that company or do something to their product to make it purposely incompatible with their OS.

Or include it with the OS, things like:

Remote desktop
Connection sharing
File download continuation

All of these used to be products you had to purchase in the old days.
