Quote:Wasn't Chewbacca from Star *Wars*? Smile

That's probably the whole idea... they say something unbelievable so that the teacher has to debunk all these Star Trek myths for them, thereby wasting class time and avoiding lectures etc.
.
Yeah Smile (Physicists...)
Small point (after the argument is won, I think). The reason that particles cannot travel faster than light is because the closer they get to the speed of light the greater their mass becomes, until at "c" their mass is infinate... is that right? Cos that's the gist of what our physics teacher tells us.
I think so, because mass is energy and velocity is kinetic energy. Time also slows down, and they get infinately long. Funky relativity stuff.
Oh, good, so my teacher isn't a fake, like some peoples

I've read some good (fiction) books on time travel (not star trek) but I always feel like they break down when they try to discribe the physics behind why their method works, cos from my experience I can disprove it almost straight away. That's the bad side of physics I presume... but not as bad as English, which has totally killed children's movies for me
Now who's got Einstein's hairstyle here? Ryan: you are excused.

;*)
Presumably, if you could accelerate a centrifuge to incredible speeds without killing its occupant, time would slow down for you enough that as you decelerate, it's a few years later and you've only aged a wee tiny bit. But you couldn't go back, and again, you probably could accelerate someone fast enough such that they wouldnt have to spend 70 years in the centrifuge to travel 71 without killing them.
how you people avoid having to go to bed.
Actually, i'm reading some psychology reports about a pill that repleneshes correct amounts of chemicals you gain during sleep, such that you'd be able to stay awake 24/7. Kind of like a caffiene pill without the adverse affects (they'd better release this baby non-perscription cheap before i go to college Smile)
