hehe got mine working 8) not bad for 3/2 hours of work... still need better gfx and sound fx tho. any other entries?
Quote:*Acts like reporter* So, with the coming April the 15 deadline, how do you feel about your code, that happens to be the only entrant at the moment? Big Grin

I put it toghether it 2 seconds, and lost the sourcecode of which i was planning to build on and release as an exe. It is a noob effort, most likely will run as slow as h@ll, and is a piece of sh*t.
 Nice one..
Gah, I though this would be a tougher compo. I'm a bit disappointed. I guess people are too busy getting used to FB. I sure hope so. Now I feel stupid for putting so much trouble in my entry.

Anyway, I wasn't online for weeks so you might have thought I wouldn't participate. Well, I did made something.

My entry is called Evil Baron Lachie And The Amazing Marcos Kasomba. In short, Evil Baron Lachie or just EBL.

Yes, I know the title is too much. But I got your attention, didn't I?

First of all EBL was coded in QB. Please don't shoot me. Check out the readme!! file. I do not consider QB my future in game design. EBL was a last minute decidion and therefore I used QB.

Second, this is not a finished game. I worked on EBL during 11 evenings and did not had time to finish it though that was my plan. After 11th day of developing I realized I will not be able to finish EBL properly. I didn't wanted for my trouble to be wasted so I packed up this Competition Edition which is playable and features 7 waves(levels) out of 10 planned. As far as I know sending unfinished projects to competitions is not something uncommon. Like I said, this edition is fully playable. Still it's missing a lot of things and a lot of polish. Like highscore feature, more story animations, sound effects of any sort but mainly more balanced gameplay.

I'm switching to FB so EBL will be finished in FB. You'll soon notice me asking a lot of stupid questions in FB forums.

EBL is not a classic Space Invaders clone. It's a fast-paced game, featuring multiple weapons and moving defense objects - paddles, which move from right to left edge of the screen and have a force field between them. Player can use the paddles and the force field to shield himself from the enemy projectiles. The force field concept works pretty well now, after I increased the difficult of the game. Even better than I originally imagined it would. You might not be able to beat this edition out of first attempt but it's actually rather easy to beat it once you learn the gameplay tricks. Like I said, the gameplay is not balanced properly. The whole way of playing EBL might change in the final version.

What I noticed playing EBL in WinXP on my Pentium III 866 Mhz is that the game slows down a bit when there is a lot of invader ships on the screen! Yeah, scary. Nothing of that sort happened with my previous games so I really don't know what I've put in the code to slow down the game so much. In pure DOS game works fine so it's the problem with me having WinXP on a PC not meant for it. So I doubt you'll have problems. I sure hope so.

I also hope Piptol won't mind me playing with his name to create a game hero or the fact I used my nickname to create a game villain. And there's the way I named the first wave. I meant nothing bad.

Please check out readme!!.txt file for more info about the game and my thoughts about it. Also, if you are interested in how I developed the game day by day check out the devlog.txt file in the archive. But I don't know why anyone be would interested. It's boring and tedious stuff.

Have fun(if possible).

P.S.
I absolutely forbid anyone to review this edition except if it is for competition purposes.

OMG lachie you win

rox.
Well, I would feel better if the competition was tougher. But it's not over yet.

Anyway, I would appreciate real feedback.

BTW, I passed an exam today. Got a D. Sad
I would probably got a B if I didn't worked on EBL. Working on a game scrambles my concentration. But I guess sacrifices have to be made. Not having a social life helps. Tongue

you said you didnt want a review so i kept it simple want some real feedback? the graphics are sweet. i didnt have sound, but oh well. the multiple weapons are sweet. the story is more than welcome in a game like this. the dialogue between ship and boss is classic. the shield is awesome. even palette change rules. in-game instructions are the shiz. custom font owns. shall i go on? :P
I don't want a review. There is a difference between a review and feedback. Feedback is crucial when the game is not finished yet. what "the shiz" means?

Anonymous

the shiz means shwiggity schweet

(very good) XD
I stand no chance, never did. I knew that entering. I was planning an original space invaders (based on the GB one). CURSE ME for losing the source code. oh well, back to making a better banner for forest.
