(Topic title: Dr_Davenstein's reply to one of my posts: "Just remember... Only the strong survive.")

Then what makes humankind better than animals what we are so proud of? We are proud of what? That we not kill but make poors starving to the death? This is what makes us the better?

From this two only one can be true at once... Either
We are better than the animals.
or
Only the strong survive.
but not the both at once. We call ourselves better than animals especially because of our socialization what contradict with the "Only the strong survive" view.

So if you vote to the first, you ignore capitalism in it's current form and in overall most of our current socialization. If you vote the second, you accept that there are the problems, and we are not better than animals.

I know this is "hard", but votes are anonyme: feel free to decide. Can you accept that our kind in it's current form is worse than almost anything in the nature (Second option), or you keep up your pink dreams about our socialization (First option).

Of course not voting is a possible option too if you think that something is wrong here with my views. But then prove it that it is wrong! Smile

PS: This has nothing to do with Dr_Davenstein: i just found his post well describing the subject
Humandkind has to think itself better than other animals. Imagine the opposite, if we thought ourself more lowly than them, should we go sacrifize stuff to them or what? Vote for Joe Bird for president?

IMO humankind is not "worth" more than other animals, we just isolate ourself from them, and thus (most) people no longer appreciate nature, and amongst that the animals. If we still lived as hunters, directly dependent on catching animals, everyone would ofcourse appreciate them.

And if other specie suddenly booms in numbers (like we did thousands of years ago), and proved to be strogner than us, they would likely fight us for food supplies, and win if they were the stronger. THats how it works.
IMHO, I think survival of the fittest is quite acceptable. For example, if you got into a fight with another person, you would use your teeth to try and rip the other person's head off their shoulders, right? WRONG! Humans are probably the most "primal" creatures of the Animal Kingdom, but we don't do it the same way. We declare war on an entire country (or a few. . .) and basically blow them up if provoked further. Animals just go for the "main man" and decapitates (among other grotesque things) it.
Why don't humans do it? *sigh*

Another example (also a fight scene) is if you were being held at gunpoint. If you were rich (we're talking Bill Gates' rich) and all of your money was stored in a bank, would you give him the information he needs to gain access to that money or would you at least attempt to save your own life knowing that he can't get access to your money without you telling him the information?
You decide. . .
We will survive. But are we strong? Humankind is weak We can't defend ourselves against a single bear attack. We are small. They are big. But our intelligence has told us to stay away from them because we will most likely get eaten otherwise.

We have survived this long onlhy because of our brain capacity. Without it, we would have been "obselete" eons ago.

Wrong. Monkeys use tools right? Sticks and stuff - it's still a tool. We use guns. We use tanks. We use bombs. If I had a big enough gun, I'd go up against a bear anytime. Humans are stronger than bears. It's not physical strength we're talking about - it's strength as a species.

Some species, as they matured, evolved claws. Some evolved to have posions. Some evolved to have great eye-sight. Our brains evolved. It's just another aspect of us - it's no more special than claws or posions or eyes - our brains are just something that happened to have evolved. If our brains happen to be the supperior evolution... then lucky us! But our human mind is simply a product of evolution, nothing more.

This poll is flawed.

"We are better than the animals." vs "Only the strong survive."

Both can be true. Only the strong survive? That means that the strongest, at any givent time, is better [at surviving] than all the rest. We, as a species, are stronger than all animals, therefore both are true.
intelligence is purely relative....I can surely see aliens landing on earth and taking humans in as pets. Interesting idea actually, being provided for by a higher being. Reminds me of something....

um, duh? if you tell where the goods are, he'd have to kill you, Tongue, you think he'd just run away and leave you free to call security? :o the only thing you could do would be to keep from telling as long as possible and hope someone comes looking for you
If we aren't supposed to eat the other animals, then why are they made out of meat?
the good doctor raises an interesting point. and i'm pretty hungry.
we're not supposed to eat paper either, . :o it can taste pretty good though, with some catsup Tongue
