I have decided to keep a development log of each step of the game's creation with information on how I created each part. I am trying to document this in a way that someone else could create the same game from scratch by reading this series and spending some time creating game art and music.
sounds cool 8) nice job so far.
Cool, I think I'll learn from this :-). Excellent initiative Syn9. Keep it up...i want to read more :-)
looks truely awesome, I have been waiting for a sequel for a long time :)

controls::

the cannons and the strafe left/right do not currently work. id suggest just holding down e & i, then using W+L and S+O to turn

w/l/s/o each apply some thrust, holding a couple together allows you to turn faster

e and i both provide 50% forward thrust, so pushing both allows you to accellerate faster
syn, the thing I like best about you is that you know how to get sh|t done!
While everyone else is slowly creeping along in their projects, you are getting yours made!

Nice progress!
looks neat, controlls suck completely
Looks good!
i agree about the controls - they look almost poopy

perhaps custom keylayouts? mouse support in game could really help (though, a joystick or gamepad would rock even more)

i'd help there, but i have no experience with SDL key and other junk yet.

oz~
Looks nice, just the controls are a bit lousy... so many controls is just ridiculous for a game... I dont even know what everything does...
