Quote:Are you one step closer to the edge and you're about to break?

Often, yes.
Eminem is a pile of turdy crap. That's not Rap, that's lullabyes.
na_th_an is quite...umm..."musically opinionated". Big Grin
I'm quite opinionated on everything. To use my nathanish language, I'm hummm... "everythingly opinionated".

Must be the mediterranean food or maybe that I'm a musician and have a great nose to smell pre-manufactured bands.
Saw a post about a good guitarrist a few posts away, Dire straits guitarrist (Mark Knopfler) anyone? Probably one of the best guitarrists I've ever heard...
Yup, agreed. Mark is awesome. I like those guitarists that mainly focus on having an unique style rather than getting 36 notes per second Big Grin

Mark Knopfler, Brian May, Jimmy Hendrix, Mick Ronson, Adrian Ballew, ... Tongue
Quote:Linkin Park (i like music i can relate to, and i can relate to a lot of their songs)

That's the point, they write lyrics in a manor that relates specificly to events in everyone in the worlds life. Thats why it's fake....

if it applies to everyone it might as well apply to no-one...

or something...

I like it, i think it's good. That's my opinion, ok.

And Eminem is Soul Filled Rap, again that's why i like it. I like a song to have meaning, that's why i like a lot of rock. Not rock that you can't make out what they are saying though, i HATE that.

Some rock songs go:
Roar Roar Growl Grang

When they mean:
You lift me up

One word for that: Bullsh!t
Eminem is not Rap. It's just a premanufactured "product" for mass consuming. It's focused on angry youngsters that are easily influenced by his naughty looks. The thing is that as soon as the youngster grows old and mature, he finds out what's what and Eminem dies.

Eminem was created in an office by some creatives, designers and money men. The guy keeps shouting against the "system" in his songs, when he's one of the biggest parts of that "system" he criticises.

Pretended violence sells. That's a fact.

If you like Rap, listen to real Rap, not that hip-hopish piece of crap where a stupid bimbo tells you what to think. Get Run DMC, Public Enemy or Sugar Hill Gang, even 2Pac or Puff Daddy. That's Rap.
I think everyone's perception on lots of things music is going to be different.

In my opinion, a lot of artists need to be taken at face value, and just looked at for what they are without the expectation of something else being put on them.

Eminem, while not being a great rapper is an amazing lyricist who can string many words and topics together in unique ways. That's a big part of his appeal. He's also a shock value artist and some people appreciate at it (for the same reason people slow down on the expressway to look at a car accident).

Linkin Park, while not being all that musically talented (read: I really dislike them) has their mind set on making music that young adults can relate to. Their lyrics are targeted mostly at suburban white America, where even though the kids have no reason to feel that their lives are that bad, they do. So the angst (whether fake or truthful) in the lyrics is what their fans can associate to.

Incubus has slowly changed from what they used to be to a more pop culture attempting band. Meaning, rather than writing the music they started writing, they attempted to move more mainstream to sell albums rather than attempt to keep up with what they were doing. You'll notice a huge change if you were to listen to S.C.I.E.N.C.E or Enjoy Incubus and then to Crow Left of Murder. I actually like Incubus, but associate more with their older things.

Either way, these are my opinions and just like assholes, everyone has them (which is being shown now with all the posts on this topic).
