Music is a form of art, and all art is subject to the approval of the viewer. What is art to you may not be art to me, and vice versa, so therefore, what is skill to you may not be skill to be.

Not quite. You don't see people who can only play a few power chords getting let into Berkley do you?

Green Day only play a few power chords and you couldn't listen to anything that wasn't fucking Green Day the whole fucking day around 1995 or 1996 :barf:
oh come on the music industry has always and will always be in deep shit. the real good music is either written by ghostwriters that get hired by big labels to create songs for a pool that mainstream bands can chose from, or by independant musicians that actually try to be a little more innovative. everything else ( including bands like tool, rage, korn ( oh especially korn ), advert master manson etc. just to name the rock/metal ppl, dunno bout rap ) is written to accomodate the mainstream taste. once you sign on to a big label say good bye to musical freedom.

Yes, quite, Mr "I Must Argue With Nek All The Time". Tongue Art is expression, and talent is subjective. Just because a bunch of crusty old men don't think it's art doesn't change the opinion of hundreds of others who appreciate the art for what it is.

Here's a fun little example to prove my point: who was more talented...Bach, Beethoven, Grieg, or Mozart? And why? Ask this of a bunch of classical music lovers and you'll get all kinds of different responses...ask it of a bunch of goths or skaters and see how many blank stares you get. My opinion? Grieg. Why? I thought he wrote the best pieces.

just to interject a lil something

you can totally tell how many great melodramatic pieces written by our beloved square was heavily influenced by grieg's peer gynt ;p

What about this year with that terrible cd American Idiot? They are at every award show and one of their songs is always on the radio.

I never said they were good, alternative music has demonstrated that most people can play guitar in the music scene. As long as they have a good singer, and of course a good appearance. Tongue

Hey, you were the one who responded with what I said. If you didn't want to argue no ones forcing you to reply Wink

All music is art, no matter how complex it is. One guy had a song completely composed of rests(musical stops), that's still considered music. I still like bands like Nirvana, and Tool who do not have very complex parts. Why do I like them? Its just something that I like, because you can't argue taste.
Quote:Mike Patton is God (or another one).

Quote:Some rock songs go:
Roar Roar Growl Grang

When they mean:
You lift me up

One word for that: Bullsh!t

That's what sleave notes are for, retard.

And I'm not arguing that that is your opinion, I'm arguing with your opinion (rules of grammar aside).

A phrase like 'I lift you up' has no meaning. It's called a CLICHÉ.

matt

Huh? I was complaining that most rock singers nowadays you cannot even understand what they are saying, let alone what it means.

Anyone heard Trevium: Gunshot to the head of Trebia (or something like that). Listen to it, and tell me how much of it you understand.
