Finally! after seven years...

http://dk-software.com/da2dl.html
Too big for me! Sad
I want to give this a try (Especially after looking at the eye candy 8))
Holy sh1t...I must say that this is one of the WORST games I have ever seen. Its ONLY saving grace is the nice quality music (two excellent musicians on staff, it damn well better have good music). The control is terrible (way too many object hangups), the sprites are freakin tiny and are drawn quite badly, you're thrust into the game not knowing what the hell is going on, the combat system is pathetically broken AND looks like crap, and to top it all off...the game allows for no graceful exit (Alt-F4 is the universal "let me outta here!" exit from anywhere in a Windows program). The combat engine appeared to lock up when bringing up the Skill menu for the magic-user guy and I couldn't get out of it, so I tried Alt-F4...no effect. Tried Alt-Tab...the taskbar did nothing but flicker every second and then disappear. Tried Ctrl-Alt-Del...the Task Manager came up and flickered the same way. Then, since none of that worked, I went back into the game and tried everything possible to get around this glaring bug in the game...every key was hit, and just about everywhere on the screen was clicked...to no avail. There was no way out of this, so I had to do a soft boot of my computer. Needless to say...this game was immediately deleted once the desktop was up.

Seven years for THIS? I'm glad I didn't hold my breath.
Wow, I guess I'm just glad I didn't spend the time downloading it.

i acttually spat coffee everywhere laughng so hard!! ive just spent half hour d/l ing it so i hope its not that bad. lol.
@ NecrosIhsan - have to disagree with your assasement of the game. I experienced no object hangups. The art is not that bad, though it could stand some improvement. If you read the little description, you actually do know what is going on. If you happened to try the "q" key, you might just be able to quit without using alt-f4.

I do think, though, that it should quit to the main menu. The z menu, imo, should be changed to esc, as it is more fitting. Also, a quit button should be put into that menu. Character movement is a bit quirky when they leave the center of the screen. The battle engine was pretty intuitive and did not discourage me by killing off my characters from the start, which is good. I think if you right click on something and there isn't supposed to be a response, it should tell you so, instead of leaving you to wonder whether or not the game registered your command.

The beginning story is sort of broken up and could stand improvement, though its not hard to get the gist of what is going on. Dialogue with people is pretty painless.

The music was very good and got me into the playing mood.

All in all, the controls could use some tweaking, the story a bit of editing, and then this game would be a pretty gem. However, I would recommend coding Dark Ages III in freebasic. 8)

I can say with confidence I will be playing this great game for several more hours of my time.

On a side note, years ago I had a walking demo of this (when I believe it was still in qb) and I could not wait for it to come out. Until I saw this and downloaded the game, I had completely forgotten about it. I commend on your continued effort to finish and not abandon the project, as it is quite decent.

I thought the graphics and control system were acceptable, i didnt listen to the music. I found the problem also, that the controls were not on the first screen i had to dig in the docs. q didnt seem to work for me (maybe because i was trying to quit during a fight) and i didnt like the way all other methods had been blocked ie ctrl+f4 escape alt-tab, windows key, alt-enter ctld-c

i just jammed all they keys for a few seconds and it went away.

anyway i found the gem in his drawer and went down the sewer but got bored walking around for ages, then found the fighting system rubbish.

im not really your target audience though as apart from nethack i hate rpgs
I think backspace is the escape key, but i'm not positive =P

That was....somethin.....yeah. Definetely not all that it could have been, really i was expecting something a little more impactfull. I guess the only thing that was above average in the game was the music, which i rather enjoyed =). I'd still download it to see the game for yourself though.
It's not ground breaking or anything, but Dark Ages 1 kind of sucked technologically speaking, too. The great thing is it is a complete world and a complete game with a pretty good community following. I actually did appreciate reading the background info on the DA2 website before playing, and the game itself is entertaining enough to draw me away from ... well, I was really doing anything else exciting.

And to get out of that menu you were stuck in, Necro, did you try right click? I'm pretty sure that'd get you out of where you were. (I discovered by trial and error.)
As I said before...I tried EVERYTHING. Every key on the keyboard, every possible keystroke combination I could think of, all the mouse buttons in many positions all over the screen. Absolutely nothing worked. I had absolutely no choice but to reboot. What I find to be the worst though is how the game seemingly seizes control of the foreground regardless if another app has topmost priority (like Task Manager). That was the last straw for me...if that hadn't been an issue, I might have given the game a second chance.
