Although this topic should probably be posted in Qbasic General, this particular forum is read more so:

How many people would be interested in contributing to a Qbasic archival project?

Well I've set up a proof of concept for those intersted, basically its just a run of the mill web ftp program that lets you create directories and what not. I havn't bothered to secure anything so I'm fairly certain you could all hack it to pieces if you wanted to, but all that what do is force me to take it down and that's not very productive is it?

Link is here:
http://qbasic.parkdalien.com

Log in as:
Code:
Name: qb
Pass: qbuser
After that you can create folders, upload files etc.
Currently I propose this setup:

For Games and Demos
Games/Demos->Company->GameName->Files
For Utilities and Libraries
Utiities/Libraries->LibName->Files

Also it would be nice (not neccesary) if each game/lib had a small notes.txt file with release date, company, website, contact email etc.

Files can be publicy downloaded here, without doing anything special:
http://qbasic.parkdalien.com/homes/qb/

Also I have no problem with people directly leaching off the files and wanting to mirror the setup.

Also if someone wants i can setup direct ftp access. (although its going to be one user at a time)

So, whos willing to help? I've got around 300MB of files that i'll gradually get around to uploading.
I hardly think this will fill up 200GB of webspace... But it's a great idea nonetheless!
Yeah, it's definetly a good idea. Is this exclusive QBasic code though? Is it ok to submit FBASIC code too? Tongue

This forum has met a divide recently. That divide has 3 functions. One group will use QBasic and FreeBASIC, if at all possible. Another group will use FreeBASIC only. The third group will use QBasic only. The thing is, I think we now adhere to sites that support QB and FB. Make something with a nice all around profile that fits those specs and you'll have more traffic than you know what to do with. Wink

Sorry... but posting a topic like this in the general forum is bound to brew some general replies... Smile
I can add an fb section if desired. The only thing is I'm willing to support and upload stuff for the qb part. Big Grin (To be honest, I dont have any fb files worth uploading it)

So for the fb part, you guys are on your own in cleaning and administrating it Big Grin

Eventually I'm hoping to set up something like moby games, or hol for amiga but for now we can get the files up Big Grin

Okay well if any wants to use it

Same rules apply and you can directly download files directly from:
http://qbasic.parkdalien.com/homes/fb/

In any case i was not aware of this split, should i repost this both in fb general and qb general? (It's not technically spam, I dont really have a site and theres nothing worth spamming yet).

The reason i avoided the qb news forum is that is posts everything to the main page, i figure if you took the time to register on this forum you're not likely to do anything malicious to the site, hence the freely given permissions.

(Oh and edit)
Regarding the notes.txt, it looks like it's much to time consuming to be done now. When i ever get around to writing the cms for the site, the data can be filled then.
This thing is great! Love the server and the PHP interface.

Err...as I gather from your PM I can upload my QBasic Games Directory to it. I'm just in the process of doing that. It will take several weeks since I can't be online often and when I am,I don't have time to upload all the letters. I uploaded letter A today and will add few more if time allows it. Few games will not be possible to upload since they exceed 7 MB limit (TerraScape, Frantic Journey).

I hope you don't mind the structure I created to store the files. It's somewhat necessary if the files are to be connected with the PHP code on the QBasic Games Directory website.

Even if leeching will not be possible I'll upload the games to all the people can get them. Screenshots of most of the games will be uploaded too.

Also, I'm not sure how this open policy is a good idea. Future will show.

Letter C report: Cai's Quest 3 could not be uploaded since it exceeds the 7 MB limit (it's 7.5 MB big).
Games A to I have been added. You can check them in here:

http://qbasic.parkdalien.com/homes/qb/Ga...Directory/

I'll be able to upload another batch in about 10 days. Be patient.
Regarding the file size limit, I forgot the password, so when i get home I'll dig it up and see if i can change that.

If not I'll just pm you with an ftp account so you can have direct ftp access.

Btw, if its okay I'm going to move it from Games/QBGamesDirectory/ to /QBGamesDirectory

This way, I'll just upload the files twice and keep both directory structures present (Space isn't an issue so the rendundancy is fine).

Leeching should work as far as I know, and I have no problems with it, so if for some reason someone wants to mirror the whole archive and bring the traffic to themselves go ahead.
Isn't this only for 12 months? Maybe if this works out, we could all put in a bit to keep the space... sort of a community run archive.
I've got other space and hosting available. If it needs more I can always buy more.(Hosting is dirt cheap) By the time this expires I'm planning on getting a VPS so for something like this, so you don't have to worry about it going offline.
I've always wanted to do this project Big Grin

Thats the plan, I'd like to be able to set up a few ftp mirrors and what not, sort of like the amiga scene used to have. That would be cool.

Hey, Lachie, what's the largest file you have to upload? I'm going to file a support request and see if i can get the size increased.
I'm not Lachie, lol, but the largest QB archived game I have is Terrascape: Breakdown Velocity sitting pretty at 20MB or so.
