Norton Commander --- it rings a bell, but I can't remember exactly what it does.
The Norton Integrator (NI) was sort of a "help" of all Norton's standalone utilities, which explained how to use each of them and also let you execute them from a pseudo command line, like a mini DOS shell.
The Norton Integrator version 4.5 that I still use did not have a referemce to the Norton Commander. I suspect this came out in later versions and was probably a more robust shell. I don't know.

Tell us how it works.

NA_TH_AN: How did you "capture" the NC screen with colors, borders, etc. while in DOS? NC didn't do things I wanted, so I wrote my own called !DO.EXE. I wanted to show you the screen, but I don't know how.

ZACK: Don't become enamored with debug programs. You should very rarely have to use a debugger if you write good code. Back in the old days, we debugged by taking a memory dump. I stopped taking dumps on the IBM 360 way back, because they were a bear to understand. Since then, I have never taken a dump or used a debugger. The main thing is to get your program to produce some output. Once you've got output, you don't need a debugger --- the output tells you what's going on. This also implies creating some intelligent test data. Of course, this is my own personal experience and opinion.

Moneo, if you're using windows just put the dos screen in a window and press "printscreen". Then use a paint program to crop out the rest of the screen except for (wala) the screenshot.

I need more details. When you hit "PrintScreen", where does the image go, or where is it stored? What paint program do you mean?
How do I connect the image to the paint program?
I'm not good with Windows.

It copies an image of the screen to the clipboard. If you go to any paint program, like MS-Paint, and click edit->paste, it will paste the image from the clipboard. Then you click file->save and choose a web format like GIF or JPG. (if you dont have these options, save it as a BMP and reply saying so).

of course, you can't capture most graphics applications, because they must run fullscreen... they also probably have weird custom palettes, so you wouldn't be helped much anyway.

In such cases I use ST (Screen Thief) or NEOGRAB (the grabbing utility which comes with the DOS version of Neopaint).
