The BASIC Techniques and Utilites Book by Ethan Winer is highly recommended. Many of the techniques lke "reading large chunks of input" are covered in chapter 6. Chapter 9 is dedicated to optimizing code.

I think the guy's kind of full of himself. It's a good book though. But for QBasic? It's too self-explanatory and has too good a documentation for books to be of great necessity.

and answer forums then? Simply reading that book would eliminate the need for whole bunches of questions. (Besides, it doesn't have to be a "great necessity" to be useful.)
