Cops in America
#11
I think cops are good but guns are bad... and I live about a quarter of a mile from a gun club/rifle range... I hear the sound of guns every day and night, and I think that they do no good whatsoever. The only guns that should be allowed are those orange plastic ones that came with Duck Hunt for the nes. The cops are doing a service by being available to protect people, but I don't think they need guns for that. There are peaceable means of law enforcement, and at least less violent methods than using a firearm.

Quote:That's also another thing. They can sometimes make things get way too overly technical, so when it's obvious to the people that a consequence is waaaaaay over harsh. They can't tone it down to how it should be because they are rock hardened to the law.

Cops don't sentence criminals. Judges do. (You know the whole legal system has problems when you can sue McDonalds because you're a fatass.)

Supposing the police suddenly had no guns, how do you suppose they would stop an armed robber? With slingshots?

For goodness sake guys... UQB, LooseCaboose and I had this debate before. The US is in deep trouble because it says it's the "land of the free" so everyone can carry a gun. Really, that's just stupid. You should all come and live in NZ, where if a criminal has a gun, it is almost certainly not an automatic, and definately not explosive... there is actually a law over here that states explicitly that no automatic weapon is allowed in the hands of a member of the public. Period. The only people with them is the army and the armed defenders squad. What does this mean? That if you commit a crime with a gun, you can guarantee you won't have the biggest gun. NZ is a better place without guns, and I hope I never have to spend to long in the US ever.

What's all the argument? Everyone knows all of us live in a totalitarian police state-- the transparency of the lies used to disguise it just varies from country to country. Hasta la Victoria Siempre.

Yes, and why are we discussing politics in a QB forum? Can people not resist? Wink

FYI Oracle, automatic weapons are also illegal for civilians to own in the United States. And that "land of the free" bit has more to it than guns.

(I don't see how NZ is any different than the US when it comes to guns. Maybe you should stop making up "facts".)

The problems is that guns are easily allowed in the US. I know that buying a gun is easier than buying a porn mag. That is the problem. You have a gun culture, and that's why the number of people killed by fire arms is that big in your country. And that is a fact. May you like guns, but you can't deny that guns kill and people get killed simply 'cause there are much too guns in your country.

You can find madmen everywhere. The problem is that, in the US, they have guns.

Have you ever been to the United States? I'd like to know what you're basing your statements on. Guns are definitely not "easily allowed". You need a permit, and a background check is performed before you can get one.

I don't know where you get the idea that guns are easier to get than pornos. To get a porno, all you have to do is walk into a store and flash your driver's license.

And as for the "gun culture", I think you've been watching too many movies. I'm sorry, people here do not walk around with AK-47s in their pants and rocket launchers strapped to their cars.

(Maybe you'd like to know that roughly the same number of people are killed each year in the United States from automobiles as they are guns.)

As for your statement that people are killed "simply 'cause there are much too guns", I think that's ridiculous. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. And if there weren't any guns, people would still get killed. (There are these sharp pointy things called knives. You may even have some in your kitchen!)

I am definitely not promoting killing. I'm just trying to show you how misinformed you are about guns in America.

Of course, not all murders are gun-related. But there is an undisputable correlation between gun-ownership and homicide (see Prof Thomas Gabor's report, or Prof Martin Killias findings for just a couple of examples). Any mug can pick up a gun and pull a trigger fit of rage; it's a different matter to try and physically overpower somebody and push a knife through their chest.

I definately disagree with anyone saying cops are lazy (there are some... but most are not) I know allot... They all are some really great people! Oh, thanks Jon for backing me up on the whole gun situation us the US... it's pretty stupid what yall are thinking. Just yesterday in our town, 2 different police officers pulled over a suspect, and it turned into a fight in the ditch next to the road... the suspect got one of the officers gun, shot one of the officers in the leg... Then the other officer shot the suspect multiple times in the head, chest etc. The suspect did not have a gun to begin with, but he is now dead. Sad story, my opinion being the second cop should have been on the side handgun drawn... not trying to get the suspect on the ground. It should be a surrender or get shot type of thing, that way are police would be safe.
