Sure you’ve heard of Arcade Games in QB, BUT..........

LOL - to convert asteroids to SCREEN 9 I am using page flipping, which only doesn't flicker in PURE DOS. In Win98 it looks bad, but in Windows 2000 I get a nice flickering like the original vector arcade Tongue

I'm compiling now in VBDOS and adding some features. I think this may be my entry.

About PONG: Well, maybe, but it won't be fair that I'd reuse such an old game of mine...

To Na_th_an,

As for you doing a revamped and much better version of Asteroids, *YES*, you may plain choose to do so, my man, since that game was originally made in 1979 for the arcades! But, you and those who enter my compo as well are limited to doing only ONE (1) category in my current compo, according to rule #1 of the Official Rules, so it’s either one or the other in terms of whichever category you select at all. And another thing, the rules have been *slightly* revised and updated, so please make sure you read them all and _agree_ to them all before you even sign up and enter, Na_th_an. Thank you so much again now and **SPLENDID** blessing to you!!! Wink !!

P.S. And look, the **rather** brightest side of all on the very category that pertains to 1978-1985 arcade classics is that you can make your game in as **MANY** lines as you want, so you are not even limited to 64 lines at all here! Wink ! (It is also _recommended and even best_ that you to start your project off from scratch, too, by the way!) As for Pong, since the game was originally made in 1972, I will so definitely NOT accept any clones or remakes (whether totally original or otherwise!) all concerning about Pong itself at all, pretty sadly. Sad It is such __WISE__ practice, though, to look up the *exact* year that a certain arcade game was originally made in, and it all starts with the Killer List Of Videogames (KLOV) official website which will get you WELL on the way to helping you out richly on whatever QuickBASIC game project that you are to create pertaining to my category about 1978-1985 arcade classics!!! Big Grin !!

P.P.S. I furthermore and **additionally** thank you so gratefully much that you said that I must be the best researcher. I SO GREATLY APPRECIATE THAT, MAN!!! ;*) !!

Cool. Then I think I'll load up Future.LIB, make a decent version of Asteroids and let it go at yer compo.

Cheers!

Dearest, ***DEAREST*** ALL of the QB45/QB71 community,

Hello and *do* prepare yourselves tonight now!! Wink !

Continuing on with the subject of 1978-1985 Arcade Classics, did you know that during this past summer, Retro Remakes has produced its own first-ever compo called the Retro Remakes Competition, hmm? And, there were over **80** stunning entries, including some remakes of classic arcade games to FURTHER inspire you for my own original compo that is *already* in progress here. To add to the excitement, I must venture to say on purpose that one of those remakes include (GET THIS NOW!!) an __ACTUAL__ remake of Space Harrier that is designed for Windows 9x or above!!! Big Grin !!! However, throughout my current compo, I WILL NOT be placing them entries on *any* of my compo pages at all due to the apparent risk of such copyright infringement on the original authors of the arcade games themselves. I WILL, though, be sharing with you at least two (2) of my selected picks here as inspirations for one of my categories, just to get you to the point where you can download them to be further inspired to enter my compo indeed (please see the *VERY* beginning of this thread for more details). Here they are right now!!! Cool !!

______________________________________________________

TIME PILOT (Claudio Chami conversion)

This game is an *OFFICIAL* entry of the Retro Remakes Competition, and is **VERY** faithful to Konami’s 1982 original arcade classic!! Be forewarned: the controls take _QUITE_ a while to get used to, but hey, once you do get used to ‘em, then you will suddenly find yourself having a good time with this one! Wink !

______________________________________________________

SPACE HARRIER VGL (Hotrod VB conversion)

This game is also an *OFFICIAL* entry of the Retro Remakes Competition, and just wait ‘till you play this one, because ***THIS GAME KICKS BIG-TIME ACTION INTO SUCH INTENSE OVERDRIVE***, baby, from the wildest scaling effects all the way to the gameplay itself!!! :*D !!! Now THIS is just one of the ways arcade remakes shall point-blank be, to be 100% brutally honest with you, guys and gals!!! Wink !!

______________________________________________________

From here, you can go to the results page where you can download two of those files and even more entries of the Retro Remakes Competition, too!!! A MOST HAPPIEST INSPIRATION TO YOU ON THIS CATEGORY OF MY COMPO, and see you all again!!! Wink !!

HEAVILY PUTTING ON THE INSPIRATION AND ORIGINALITY TO YOU,

P.S. There was at least *one* late entry that tried so hard to qualify for the Retro Remakes Competition, and it is called Zaxxon RetroRemake. Check it out here, as it plays SO good even while it is currently in the early stages of development! ANOTHER inspiration file worthy of note, people!! Wink !
