Yeah, I know, but using a SVGA library only for 320x200 at 8 bits is not something that I feel like a lot...

I've not tested the library directly, but I've tried to test games writthen with the library (for example, Oblivion or Zero-G2) and as they use 16 bits video modes I can't see a pixel. With 8 bits mode, some just return "Divide error" and others seem to work but with completely messed and mangled displays (fancy vertical lines and stuff).

I looks like 16 bits programming and the VESA included in my Voodoo3 doesn't like each other.

When 3dfx was still alive I called tech support about their lack of vesa support. The guy said that the company's intention is not to support anything from DOS, that it was a windows-only card. It's not UGL's fault that it doesnt work.

Now as for the documentation project, put it in .pod, quickhelp or RTF format so it can be converted to other formats.

the G and L stands for Game Library, not VESA library. Why you ask? Becuase it is a game library, and most probably superior at in that aspect.

I was not complaining against UGL in any moment.

I don't know enough to found a reason, so I blame the 16 bits environment. Using Allegro from DOS in a 32 bits environment, I can get any video mode I can think of (up to 1024x768 in 24 bits, the max my monitor can handle. Weird video modes were accesible too, I ran Callus at 384x256, 16 bits, for example). Also, every DOS game which ran in SVGA work. Of course, every game/emulator I've tested worked in PMode. Maybe that's the reason: Accessing the card from Pmode is done directly and thru' realmode it is done by bankswitching. That's the issue.

I'm sure i must have said this about 100 times. The pmode vesa bios works. Just not the real mode. And as you heard toonski say, it was their intention.

So it *does* stand for something. Why can I not find what the actual acronym stands for? Are ya hiding it? Tongue

Ultimate Game Library, though it was never given an official acronym. Sometimes its creators call it UGLy as a joke, but that's not official either Smile

Again, there is no official name for it. You'd be surprised at the acronyms that are used before people decide what each letter stands for.
