Djgpp is a c/c++ compiler for 32 bits DOS. The generated code is fast and reliable, and works OK on Windows 9X, Windows Me, Windows 2K and Windows XP. It is a GNU gcc port for 32 bits DOS.

Allegro isn't hard to install in any platform. Just type "MAKE" using the correct makefile.

Actually, its been known to be very unweildy when used on xp and 2k, and many people have reported it crashing on those platforms.

DJGPP can compile c,c++ and asm.

Why would you want to command line mingw? Would you code in qbasic with notepad?
Dev-c++ however is rather buggy(memory leeks etc) But its infinite easier then command lining mingw, since all you have to do is press compile, as opposed to writing makefiles.

I haven't got any make.exe in the allegro directory that's it...
Or is it supposed to be with the mingw compiler?

Has djgpp any gui?

IN PLAIN SIMPLE ENGLISH HOW TO INSTALL ALLEGRO WITH DEVCPP
http://www.allegro.cc/files/install-devcpp.html

it tells you how to use make, and no make does not come with allegro, why would it?

Hey go easy on red_Marvin! I too downloaded a release version of MingW that did not have any make program with it either. That was V2 V1 did have, so its not his fault.

red_Marvin: I would just follow those instructions exactly, as I downloaded for hours and still could not get the thing working, but using the exact versions specifiec in the build/docs/mingw32.txt I got the allegro tests working.

All mingw version have make. In the newer ones its just renamed. to make-32 something or other. You can put a shortcut in that folder and point it to the new make.exe and itll work fine.

The instructions i posted earlier tell which version of mingw works best and where to get it.

Thanks for the help but one last(?) question:
I've downloaded some allegro manual in html format
but according to me it wasn't that userfriendly,
is there any in chm format?

edit 1: of course there is! I've just found one and I'm checking it out...

edit 2: And now a tutorial...
