Integrated graphics
#11
You can also try going into the computer's BIOS and looking for anything that might give you a clue. Usually, there's an onboard video disable function somewhere in the BIOS, and if it's present and "Enabled", you have integrated video, and it's active. Sometimes, integrated video uses a dongle which looks like a regular video card from the outside, so it can be hard to tell. But if it doesn't look like it's an accessory card (it's pretty easy to tell if it's not an accessory card), it's quite obviously integrated video. If you have a digital camera, try snapping a pic of the back of your computer and posting it. Smile

Er, he already said he had a tower and the monitor plug was vertical, so it has to be integrated. The question now is does the mobo also have an AGP slot...

I'm pretty sure it's integrated now: they advertised the computer with "Intel Extreme Graphics". 64MB.
Would I have to replace my mobo if it doesn't have an AGP slot?

$50 to $150 depending on the type of CPU and RAM you have.

(You're going to have to open the case to replace the mobo anyway, so before you go looking into buying a new one you should make sure that the one you have doesn't have an AGP slot. There are mobos with both integrated graphics and AGP slots, so it is possible...)

Next time I install a few GBs of RAM, I'll take a look

Why don't you just look in your mother board manual? All the info should be available there...

Well, if you computer is a premade one (Dell, HP, ...) you won't have any mobo manuals... PREMADE COMPUTERS SUCK!!!

Good luck Smile

Why don't you open the case? If your parents don't let you 'cause it's the familiar PC and they don't want it broken, explain them that you want to examine it in order to enhace it, and that the only thing you are gonna do is removing 4 screws from the back.

You read the situation, Nath. Smile We just bought this machine, and everyone is uberpicky about it being damaged.
Also the computer is in a cramped spot, so it's a bit of a pain to get at it.
I'm just praying that I don't have to live with this horrible graphics card. :normal:

Well, then I suggest you to call the tech service or ask at the place where you bought the machine. They will provide the specs, most likely.
