Its wierd for me to read this thread, because in the UK, where i live, cell phones (called Mobile phones, or Mobiles for short) are a part of our culture. Every single person that I know has a mobile phone, and we constantly keep i touch with SMS. Mobile phones do not make people "snobs" or make them appear "rude" here, it is a way of life, almost. Everybody uses them constantly, and many many people's life revolve around the mobile phone here. The difference between here and the US is amazing.... =P

It is the same in the U.S. Most high school students have a cell phone (at least in the schools around San Diego).

The thing that makes people talking on cell phones "rude" or poor drivers is that their attention is divided. Between talking on the phone and driving or whatever else, they are less likely to think about what's going on arround them.

I don't know if anyone else caught it, but a few years ago, a local radio talk show host was making something of a public apology for having pulled out of a parking space right in front of another car. He wanted them to know that it was unintentional, so he said "I wasn't being inconsiderate. I just wan't thinking." What is being considerate? It is thinking about others (to consider means to think). What is being inconsiderate? It is simply not thinking about others.

When people are using cell phones, they are more likely to be inconsiderate, simply because their attention is divided.

Javascript is a 50% finished version of C that is able to manipulate HTML. Java is slow on my computer. Cellphone users are rude and they suck, because I don't have one [a cellphone, not a cellphone user]. Cancer is bad and we will all die from it if "we" continue to mess up the environment. Most TV is rubbish, but black and white TV is boring. Nuclear power saved the world.

I am right, you are wrong.
