Questions...
#91
I say, that if a guy who's leaving his job and his family to go to a poverty-stricken nation to provide food and medical care wants to teach someone about his religion, then he's earned that right. I don't believe in Mormon, nor do I think Joseph Smith had an ounce of sanity in him, but the required 2 years of mission work they have has benefited tens of thousands of people around the world. So they can believe whatever they want.

Hellbound, I'm Roman Catholic too, but it takes quite a bit of departure from the Chruch to not consider yourself a Christian Wink

Say, why is this in Newbie help anyway? I've only had the patience to read the last page or so.

toonski, if someone is providing help to a poverty struck people that doesnt earn a person the right to force anything on them. And you forgot those africans werent always like that. Somebody caused their plight into poverty, disease...I am not saying that it was because of a particular religion or the people belonging to a particular religion are bad and thats why they did this.

All I am saying is that if someone wants to embrace a particular religion by his own free will then he can do so by all means. But if someone is forcing or misleading them so as to get them converted then that is not correct.

All well and good until they start deceiving people...which is exactly what TBBQ is talking about. Unless you're in a religion made up of deception and lies, what they're doing is totally uncalled for. Unless Christianity IS a religion of deception and lies? I know quite a large number of good Christians who would be appalled by what's going on, and would be quick to defend Christianity as a whole against a non-Christian who's questioning the validity of the religion as a whole based on the actions of one group of deluded sickos. It's people like them (the idiots who shove this crap down other's throats, and prey upon those who are too societically/financially weak to defend themselves against it) who give all of Christianity the bad rap it has today.

Here's an interesting site for everyone to read:

And unlike Diroga's links, it's neither hate propaganda nor prejudice, just good reading for those with an open mind Big Grin
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

Others aren't so convinced, Diroga. Smile Keep in mind that many races and religions are represented here.

Quote:You're Christian, you're just not Fundamentalist Christian. Roman Catholics are the "original" Christians, before Martin Luther's revolt which formed the Protestant Movement and thus created all other forms of modern Christianity over time: Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Pentecostals, etc. What you're referring to are the extremist fundies, the type of people who give all of Christianity a bad name. When I was in Tennessee (a horribly, horribly racist and religiously saturated state), southern Baptists were extremely common. Up north, Baptists are a lot less common. Don't really know why.

Thats what I mean, because my brother is going to dental school in Memphis and all the southern Baptists are weird as hell. For the real Christians part, I think the Armenian Church came before the Roman Catholic Church but i'm not sure.

Quote:After Trdat the Great was converted to Chritianity in 303 A. D. (some say 280 A. D.) by Saint Gregory (Kirkor) the Illuminator also called the Apostle of Armenaia and the Enlightener, Armenia was the first nation to become Christian. Up to then the Armenians had worshipped the Persian gods. Some historians ascribe the first Christian preaching to SS. Thaddeus and Bartholomew, both who had suffered martyrdom. But the main missionary work was carried out by St. Gregory (240 - 332).
They were apparently the first nation to become Christian...but recorded Roman Catholicism dates back to about 100C.E., when they started writing the Holy Bible.

Well, unless you're willing to go to another country and help them out, then you really have no point in criticizing someone who is? Are you going to help them? What kind of tripped up sort of world is it where it's better if a person is left to starve than having a person help them but try and tell them about their religion? It's not like they're saying "convert to christianity or I'm not going to give you any medicine."

And you know for a fact that they're not saying this? I'm not saying that they are because I don't know, but I'm sure you've got documented proof of this claim...right? And these people already have their own religion...they don't need Christianity shoved down their throats. It's this kind of BS that makes me dislike the Christian mindset more and more, and it's people like you who try to nitpick situations without any proof that reinforce the fact that I made the right choice by abandoning Christianity. And if I want to criticize them, I'm going to, because this is a free country and I'll do as I please if it hurts no one. Are YOU going to help them? What, no? Then don't get bitchy with me about it either. Unless YOU'RE going to make the journey with tonnes of food and medical supplies, you have no place to nitpick with me about it. It's not my fault the truth has this tendency to hurt to the point where people make ridiculous unfounded claims.
