Windows 2000 and Games
#11
Pretty much all the newer games will run on Windows 98. You just have to have the right hardware and setup to do it, just like any other time. The only time a game won't work is if it uses NT-specific stuff...that's just plain obvious (the other time would be if the computer user is an idiot, which is far more common). I've yet to see any modern games use NT-specific code yet, though. Anyone care to name one? Big Grin

I'd leave 9X/ME systems to die as they should if you are not gonna use MSDOS stuff. It is the *only* thing that prevents me for deleting my 9X partition. For win32 programs, the later your OS is the better.

I think you misunderstood me. I was a bit ambiguous in my statement. I meant "if you want to really use 2000 then you ought to install all the service packs which will surely do the trick".

Nek, we need to eliminate the computer idiots. AFAIK M$ or any gaming company wont be putting NT specific code into their games. As M$ servers arent exactly what they are targetting =P.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll give 2000 a try and let ya know how it goes.

Of course, games still work in Windows 9X, but they perform better on later versions. I am talking from experience Smile We all know that Windows 9X memory management is... well.

I've been told that the next versions of adobe products won't run on 9Xs. Also, when talking about communications, there may be stuff that won't run on 9Xs. For example, you need a special version of Emule if you use Windows 9X.

As it turns out I didn't have to install Windows 2000 after all. My XP CD was not bad. I had updated my bios around Christmas and it had changed some settings, one of which was causing the XP and Windows 2000 setup to bomb. After I figured that out I tried installing XP again and it went on fine.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I don't know anyone by that name nor have I been to that location. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
