If thats the case then why dont ya use a JPG and keep the background same as the page. That way you would get good antialiasing and you would still give it the appearance of being transparent(At that point).

Yes, it would, but the background for the top of the page is a gradient. It would take hours to align the picture and the background.

GIFs are limited to 256 colors, and antialiasing uses a kind of gradient-blur type thing to smoothe out the sides of the text. And since you need a lot of color for that kind of smoothness, GIFs don't cut it.

People... whether you anti-alias or not, it will be choppy as a transparent gif. Sure, the image will be smooth against itsself, but not against the background. If you take the smoothest red ball in the world, and put it on top of a white background, the pixels in contrast with the white *will* stick out...

I suggest making a jpeg specifically made for the background...
