Novix 2.5.0.3, I need feedback and suggestions!
#21
I'm focusing on writing the GFX routines and completing a GUI for it.

The prompt (and thus the editor) will only be available when there is no GUI present.
I'm not paying too much attention to the Prompt/Editor part any more, although I will include the DEL key and "You fucked up dumbass, you can't type that" error Tongue in the next release.

No it was planned. I just made the editor and prompt so I could release a version, and let users test (and break) the FAT and memory system.

I've completed the input now, on to file handling (open, read, write, in ns5x that is) and after that it's on to advanced graphics.

And finally the GUI.

Yeah, I like the Splash screen and all. Questions:

<1>How am I supposed to "execute" the example program(s)?
<2>Is this supposed to be an actual OS or just a really fancy GUI?
<3>What is the point of the project?

I don't come here too often. The one thing I hate about this type of forum is that articles from a few days ago are already gone. So anyhow, can someone e-mail the answers to me instead of posting them?
rogramming is like life - you work first, then play. :bounce: :rotfl: :bounce: :rotfl: :bounce: :rotfl: :bounce: :rotfl: :bounce: :rotfl: :bounce: :rotfl: :bounce:

Wizard Genius, I sent you an email.

Here it is for the rest of you:

1) If you type ls it will give you a list of files and
folders in your current directory.
Green entries are executables, blue are folders and white
is for anything "unidentified" (for now)
If there is a green entry, just type it's name, if it ends
with ".ns5" you may leave that out.

If you write you'r own program, or wish to recompile the
example programs, just type: compile [source] [executable]

[executable] may be omitted, then the .ns5 extension will
be automatically added.

2) In the future I might write a real OS called Novix, but
for now this is just a fun project,
I want to see how much can be done using BASIC and some ASM

3) To learn, especially optimization, as BASIC is slow,
and Novix will have multitasking.

Also programming is fun, and if you don't find it funny
then you might want to think about getting another hobby.

But a real goal would be to show that things
like this can actually be done,
Novix is, what I've seen, the most complete and "advanced"
FakeOS/GUI/QBOS (made in BASIC ofcourse) out there.

The latest version, Novix 2.5.0.3 feautures no graphics
other then the bootup splash screen.

Novix 2.5.0.4 or 2.5.0.5 (might even be later, depending on
the amount of bugs found and time spent on it)
will feauture the InfinityUI, which will be the GUI for Novix.

Working on this has made me interessted in making a real OS
though, so wait a few years and you might see Novix
available for your desktop computer.

If you have anymore questions feel free to send me an email
or ask at either the QBasicNews forum or Novix forum
(found at www.Novix.tk,
or a direct link:
http://s6.invisionfree.com/Novix )

Thanks for your shown interest
