Quote:The reason why the deer population runs rampant is because *humans* have one again interfered with the natural order of things. There are no more large hunting cats, wolves or bears in sufficient number throughout North America to maintain the food chain properly. There was no problem with the order of things before the Europeans came and started over hunting, setting up large cities, declaring they had the right to everything they surveyed and in general, were dicks.
I think something quite fundamental escapes most people at this juncture, and that something would be that HUMANS ARE A NATURAL PART OF THIS TOO. Lest we forget that humans are animals? I'm actually getting quite sick of the self-loathing that people have for their own kind, it's ridiculous. Human involvement in nature is just that...NATURE. We do not interfere with the natural order of things, everything we do is a part of the natural order of things. You can debate this till you're blue in the face but it won't change the facts. Big Grin

The reason humans no longer have natural predators is that humans were intelligent enough to eliminate the threat. Couple this with natural selection (elimination of the saber tooth tiger, for example...one of early human's natural predators), and it's no surprise that humans became the dominant creatures of the world in such a short amount of time. When our time comes for extinction, the next creature will dominate. It's been like this since the beginning of the world. Big Grin

Quote:I think China was the only modern country to take a step in the right direction.

The "1 child law" is a drop in the bucket, and is broken many times over by the real producers, the peasants (sp?). China was growing at 21 million people a year last time I heard - five times the entire population of NZ. So while China's step is a good symbol, they need to get a lot tougher about enforcing it...

(Just for the record: statisticians predict NZ's population to peak at about 4.61 million - in the year 2048)

It would be nice if other countries would look at China's law and implement it themselves. Of course, that will never happen in the US, that's for sure...as I stated before, people are too easily stuffed clinging to what they believe is "freedom". And I agree...China needs to put some balls behind that law (excuse the pun).

Believe me China enforces those rules very strictly. You can't reduce the population growth quickly. It's a slow process =P.

If you look at UN's projections of China's population growth then it is slowing down considerably. For example: During the period of 1950 to 1995 Chinas population more than doubled. While it is predicted that it will grow by only ~350million over the period of 1995 to 2050.

Not to mention their huge land area and terrible/inaccessible terrain which makes it even tougher to carry out the census and enforce the one child policy =(.

I find it far more likely that china will stop producing people simply because those people cannot be supported. This article supports both sides of our arguments.

First, you mean HIV and not AIDS. AIDS is the syndrome, while HIV is the cause. (Cats can get AIDS too thro FIV) While the first sentence is feasable (bush did let the WTC be crashed into after all) I'm hoping that second sentence isnt your opinion. And your choice of words for homosexuals isnt the best. Also the percentage of heterosexuals getting HIV is lower in men, but higher in women, in the US.

HIV-positive elderly people have been on the rise for the last decade. It doesn't target any particular type of person.

I do believe his second sentence was based on the opinion of the US government. In that case, he's right...that is the way the government tends to think of people who do not fit the stereotypical Judeo-Christian lifestyle. All I have to say to them is this: Come get my Pagan ass, pigs! Big Grin
