Quote:Also, I still want to know how "unschooling" prepares a student for the pressures of college.
There isn't any "prepping-for-college" class. But from expirience, (my brother is in his last year studying law at Oxford University, my sister finishing her first year in University of Toronto) I'd say that there isn't any special preperation needed for the pressures.
Oh, and by the way. There are much fewer kids that are high-school age and un/homeschooled. So that could prepare them for college/univ, eh?

I still think that sending your children to school is good for them. Otherwise, my whole nation would be "bad" Tongue

Meh, my children will go to school. Reasons explained above Wink

Actually more than that is the fact that the children would have more interaction with society and be able to deal with social problems better.

One of the things that school teaches is how to solve problems without calling dad, having to confront others, having fights or great friendships, plus the funny part about tricking your teachers in exams that is a valuable lesson for your life

I agree with you rel, school is much more than just about book learning. It's learning about life, learning about other people, their culture, their quirks, everything. You just dont get that in a home schooling environment.

People are usually under the illusion that un/homeschooled kids have no social life and just study. Not true. There are countless homeschooling groups that go on field trips (a few years ago I went on a field trip to Reptilia, a science center of reptiles). Trips to museums, art galleries, science centers, and even just picnics. Of course, athletic activies at commuity centers are open to everyone.
Why does one have to go to school to meet other people and learn about life?

Why dont you go and find out?

Also another thing. We live in a society. In other words, we live with other people and must work together for the common good. Instead of just pulling kids of of school and keeping them at home to get them away from the "evils" of public schools, why not leave them in public school, and actively participate in the school. Not only are you benefiting your own child, but are also benefiting society in general. Or is it ok to be selfish and only look out after your own and fuck the rest?
