Capital Q
#11
MS has recently decided to patent the use of the letter Q in the course of business. If you have downloaded the recent update for Excel that enables this, you will no longer be able to type the letter Q until you pay the annual licensing fee to Microsoft.

Ok, now the real deal. I had a similar problem at one point, and the cause of it... was odd. I had a program that launched other programs if certain hot-key combinations were used, and somehow it ended up launching an MS accessabilty tool that in turn made several keys not work, I suppose because both programs where trying to do something with the keys. I fixed it by using Msconfig to remove the offending program from the startup, which then allowed me to turn off the accessabilty feature as well.

I suppose it's possible that something similar happened to you. It was a real pain to figure out the problem in my case, and it made no sense whatsoever, so it's got that much in common, anyway.
