DOS and Restricted folders
#31
OK I think I found a way to access a restricted folder from DOS.

START path

it starts a program and if you put in a folder (even if it's restricted) it opens it. But I have no way of testing it now. Could someone do it?

hmm. I dont really know what your getting at, but Im sure there is ways to access them using DOS. Ask plasma, I bet he'll help you out with a down and dirty folder accesser.

I bet we could find all sorts of workarounds for folders guarded by "Password protection" by some crappy shop bought software. Unless they are encrypted of course =P

What do you guys think?

OK..... back to the original topic:

While DOS doesn't access hidden or restricted folders, several add-ins were (and possibly still are) available that allow you to work with them.

I use Q-DOS II, which can be set to show all files. I don't know if it's still available for download, but there must be a few copies laying around somewhere.

One cool thing about WIN98, by the way, is that you can still boot it up to a real DOS prompt, and erase all of the tracking/logging/ god-only-knows-what records that Microsoft loves to add into their OS's. In fact, I've got a QBASIC exe program that wipes them all out in seconds.

With XP/ 2000 and the other newer OS's, you can't really get to the root of the OS. All you can get is the stupid "DOS-prompt" window which won't let you delete the tracking files easily....... "I'm sorry, you don't have the right to delete these files. Access Denied."
