Yes, yes, the analogy's a little difficult to work out, but imagine how much harder it is to care.
*sigh* I hate studying for finals. I find myself every few hours falling asleep, and I've been getting 9 hours a night. It's so booooring.

Well. Mainly because the topic itself just stirs up contriversey. and that leads to arguments, and arguments about this kind of topic are pointless and lead nowhere, therefore litereally removing braincells to store un-nesicary info about nothing (something TBBQ lives for). And the question about his age, was intended to not be taken literally.

Nek, you could try downloading the latest Linux drivers for your nvidia card and see if that speeds up the gui, there are some issues between nvidia and some of the distros (something about binary drivers), so often they dont provide the proper hardware accelarated drivers. KDE and Gnome are both getting quite bloated recently, so going with IceWM might be a good idea as well.
You shouldn't have any trouble getting it installed on a partitioned harddrive, if Mandrake is similar to Redhat then it should offer a couple of choices for disk partitioning tools, try using fdisk which is quite powerful, but has a slightly tricky interface.
With the specs you posted, you should be able to run Linux fine. Try googling your hardware along with Linux to see if others are having compatibility problems. You could also try a couple of the other major distros, plus theres always BSD to try, although most of the same driver issues exist in BSD.
