A version (v4.5?) of the QuickBasic source code has been found. I do not think it is 100% complete, but at the moment it is possible to successfully compile v1.1 "qbasic.exe" with the included files.
It can be reached at:

Thanks for Mecki for providing the files.
[I don't think Microsoft will mind; they have demonstrated on more than one occasion that they don't care the slightest about QB.]

This is the source to QBasic 1.1, I guess. QBasic 1.X was created after QB 4.X, so it shares lots of code.

Yeah, this was news about 4 years ago...it's part of the MS-DOS 6 code leak.

Just a thought, is it possible to make a better version of qb using it, I mean to make a compiler and to throw out all unnecassery, M$'ish code ?

It's the source to QBasic 1.1, so there isn't even source to a compiler--just the interpreter. Even if there was, your time would be better spent working on a new 32-bit compiler.
Though if you wanted to, you could optimize the runtime routines. (Source to those is included.) This has already been done with Crescent Software's PDQ, but it costs $150. :barf:

They still ask for money? So lame. QuickPack and related stuff is 15 years old. I find it extremely lame to have to purchase a dead product.

Bleh. I almost got excited... but it turned about to be the QBasic 1.1 source code that gets "discovered" every few months or so. Maybe a mod could change it to
not say they found 4.5's source code.
Isn't this kind of sad? All the people who are capable of making a decent compiler don't want anything to do with qb, and all the people who want a new qb compiler the most have nothing to do with the programming skills, excessively free time and resources needed to it

It *probably* won't be long till I have the skill in which case I would finally break the rule.

I've been working on a 32-bit Windows version of QB for months, but the excessively free time is definately something I don't have a lot of, and I have to divide my time up between new reviews and articles for V Planet, my own programming projects, and that thing called "real life" which includes that rare accessory for a programmer called a "girlfriend".
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

Haha so true Jofers.
Im doing my bit to try and break the "chain". Most of my time is on real life tho, ive been working for years every now and then on a compiler to get something going.
And also adosorken you still IRC? Chat? MSN? ICQ?
