In Ontario (my province of Canada), you read a driver's book and then write a test to get a learner's permit when you're 16. This means that you can drive only with a fully-qualified driver right beside you in the front seat. You can't drive on any major highways, and I think the tolerance rules are stricter when it comes to speeding and alchol+driving. This license is called a "G1".
So you practise a bunch, and then after a few months or so you take an actual driving test. If you pass, you get a license that lets you drive without another qualified driver there, except there's still a lower tolerance for alcohol and such. This is a "G2" licenese.
Finally, a year or whatever later, you take your driving test to get a "G" license. This lets you drive like a regular driver, fully licensed.
f only life let you press CTRL-Z.

same as NY, except G1 is "DJ Permit" and G2 is "DJ License" and G is "D"

wow... that's different from saskatchewan. Here you get your class 7 license at 15, then at 16 you can take your test for your class 5. Then if you pass your license is still on probation for 2 years.

class 7 btw is the same as g2, class 5 is g.
