the genius gene :: do you have it?
#11
I've had REALLY weird dreams...here's a few of them

-A dream that while we were at a big dinner party and then all of a sudden someone outside the twelve story building through a guitar pick, broke the class, and cut a guy's throat!

-One time I found drugs in the toilet and I started using them(and no i never do drugs)

-One time I was riding my bike and I closed my eyes, couldnt open them and went straight into my school bus!

i had a dream last night that my band teacher finally let me play drums (i'm a trumpet player, though).

anyhow, anyone else notice that Seph's claiming to have a "genius gene" in this thread?
rename it to the "good night's rest gene" and you've got a winner.

I don't have dreams. i barely stay asleep. I remember one night i watched a clock tick and managed to focus so hard on it that i could hear the gears turn on the minute change. It is quite pathetic. Cry

my dreams consist of humanimals yelling at toasters, but thats a different story. wouldn't the genius gene be called, determination?

When i have a deadline for a song, i pump myself full of caffine and read up on music theory, read chord charts, and play nothing but old songs. then, i sleep for 10 hours (its called a crash (happens after alot of caffine)) when i wake up, i turn on the mic, and start playing. whatever comes out is normally better than amazing.

I read an article in New Scientist a while ago. They said they had proved that sleep helps people overcome complex problems.

For example, a group were given a complex mathematical problem. Half the group were then invited to sleep on it, and answer it in the morning. The other half were asked to do it right there and then.

Of the group that slept on it, they all managed the problem, compared to like only 50% or something of the group that didnt get to sleep on it.

So there ya are. It is a recognised phenomenon in the scientific world! =)

^^ Researchers also did an experiment where people got to play a little computer game where they had to guess which light would light up next. The lights lit up according to a complex pattern. They then gave the volunteers a nights sleep, but disturbed half of them when they were entering REM sleep. The next morning, the people who had a full nights sleep were much better at the game, those who had no REM sleep showed little improvement. The clincher happened when they tried the same experiment with a random pattern - those with REM sleep showed no improvement the next day, just like the other group.
