In reply to CTHD why did she throw herself off the mountain... were you even reading the subtitles? It says: "Old chinese people say that if you throw yourself off mountain all your wishes will come true" (or something like that  ). Of course the fact that anyone falling off a mountain in China is unlikely to return in a big hurry sort of missed being put in the scrolls  .
Anyway, Matrix is good because of the plot. How many times now have you heard people having animated discussions about the possibility of us being in the Matrix, y'now normal people (not conspiricy theorists), it's a great guy topic. Anyone caught the parallel to the internet, where in the future we all live on line and are controlled by tcpa chips and sunlight is dangerous?
ps: apparently the "Enter the Dragon" movie fight scenes were not set up. They were real fighters who really fought BL, and apparently he kicked all their asses even between takes. They would just come up to him and challenge him and he would one-inch punch them back to china.

Yeah, nobody here is saying that Matrix is not a good film. It is, and has an interesting plot, but these are not new ideas as most people claim.
Asimov wrote some things in the 60's which resembled the same idea, and The Matrix looks like it is some kind of modified parody of "Ghost In The Shell"...
The point of this is... what makes The Matrix so special? It isn't for me, it is just a nice film among many others. The only thing it is superior is in special FX, but that happened to "Jurassic Park" also and it was like a bag of shit. It has a catchy plot and such, but that plot isn't anything new to me and when I was watching the film I could guess most of the things which were gonna happen next.
Maybe it's me, and my "don't like what everyone likes" policy

Quote:My flatmates and I watched Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon the other day and that is cool fighting (because most of it is real, no wires) and Bruce Lee is just phenomanly fast.
On that point: At the start of the fight scene with Chuck Norris (where they're competing to see who has the fastest puch).. I played it slow-mo on DVD. Bruce's punch took 2 frames to connect, at 25FPS thats about 80 milliseconds.. :o

Hmm, guess I must have fallen asleep at that point.. if I hadn't I might have been joining her

Amen
But I get a feeling this is going to be one of those threads that goes round-and-around in circles...
