Well, you can run QB within winXP, but it won't work properly. You'll experiment some drasticks speed-ups and slow-downs, and your low-level stuff won't work. The best option is having a small DOS or Win9X partition somewhere in your hard disk if you wanna retro-code in QB.

According to rumour, the DOS emulators on Linux work better than XP's one, actually... but I don't have any personal experience with them.

that it could've ever worked with any version of windows past 3.11. The only reason that you can run QB with windows is because windows at least tries to emulate DOS when running DOS programs. The real question you need answered is "does Linux's DOS emulator do a better job of that than WinXP's?" I've heard several claims that Linux's DOS emulator does in fact, in general, work better than windows'. (I know one guy who insists that windows itself is more stable when running on top of Linux. Don't ask me how he got it to do that.)

Windows should be defenestrated.

I can point you to "DOSEMU". I've read good reviews of it, and I know that QB and QB games work very good on them (a friend tested JILL on it and it ran smoothly).

Wait... mofu, is your computer on NTFS or FAT32? Because QB might need FAT32 or lower... though I'm not quite sure about that. I had WinME as main OS and XP as dual boot, so my hard drives are all FAT32
am an asshole. Get used to it.
