hrm, you pups live in the days of "pretty" and not "good". A "pretty" game is not always a "good" game and a "good" game is almost never a "pretty" game.
The real questions is, "what defines a good game?"
Are we talking pushing the machine to the limits, being different, being chalenging, or, like so many retarded @$$-monkeys think, merely being "pretty"?
Personally, my favorite game is "Clowns & Balloons", circa, 1978. This is a game which predates most of this boards members by at least 10 years.
The game was humourous (you're a clown popping balloons by jumping off a moving trampoline), difficult at higher levels, and was neither demanding of the machine nor pretty. No, this gem was a game which makes you look back 20+ years and say, "I remember spending hours playing that game!"
Who can say that about FF7, or GTA? No one. Because those games have been rehashed too many times to stand out from the crowd. Not only have they been rehashed, but they themselves are rehashes. In 10 years, no one will remember FF7 or GTA. But, a few old people like me will remember being a kid in the early 80's and say, "I think I'll dig out the old CoCo and play some 'Clowns & Balloons'."
Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll dig out the old CoCo and play some 'Clowns & Balloons'.

Life is like a box of chocolates', hrm, WTF, no it isn't, more like, 'life is like a steaming pile of horse crap.'
