Microsoft Longhorn

Longhorn looks just like XP

I think it'll have fanboy appeal. In order to run it you'll need to have a gamer's video card and other absurd hardware specs. Sort of reminds me of people who drive big trucks, and for that matter the South Park Chinpokomon "velly smaww penis" episode.

Maybe the real motivation is to push corporate entities to update their desktop hardware fleets. A sort of welfare program for Dell et al.

I'd say for home computing windows 98 is the best -with some modifying and few add-ons of course.

Win2000 is best win ever.

winXP -heh I really dunno why I actually use it on my day-to-day basis :???: But with SP2 and all the recent bugfixes winXP isn't bad.

Anyway I tried Longhorn out and I must say it wasn't any slower then XP on my computer, nor did it seem to be more memory hungry. Sure some strange "freezes" happened every once in a while, but OS always came out of them after few minutes  But I must admit that I like what it has so far and some bugs and stuff I'd put down to being prebeta.

That's encouraging, VonGodric.

I was interested to read:

http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/winhec_2004.asp

Look for "Microsoft Revises Longhorn Graphics Requirements" down the page.

This also suggests a "classic" Win2K-ish operating mode. I'm not sure why after 4 years of XP being out there people still worry about looking "Back to the Future" (Win95 look) but at least it may be lighter on video requirements and thus mean some older machines will handle Longhorn.

Well, many people (myself included) prefer the Win Classic scheme over the Win XP scheme. Indeed, most of the Win XP comps I've had to work on for others have been set to use the Win Classic scheme.

I like it in periods... right now classic -for the last 3 or 4 month I had std blue scheme... And then sometimes I use all kind of eye-kandy programs like windowblinds and it's components or StyleXP Big Grin

I gave up on the Windows default shell a few months ago now. Blackbox is much cleaner, lighter, ergonomic and the menus are a lot easier to customise.

Without hundreds of desktop icons, the workspace seems more open... less cluttered... it's a lot nicer to work and code in, in my opinion.
