Not impressed? Blegh.

Like any n00b, here's the sob story associated:

This has been in development for about 7-8 months, although obviously not constant. Most of that time was spent optimizing and trying to get a fast perspective tmapper using uglpset. Imagine my shame when I realized I should've just got Blitz's attention, though I thought ugl24 wouldn't come out anyway. This program uses a bsp tree for collision detection, but displaying stuff is just a standard z-sort(which is why you have dumb sorting glitches). I wanted to release this with at least 2 mins of gameplay(I had big plans for this) but unfortunately I didn't have time, and I couldn't get sound to work. Of course now I won't be able to code till maybe near the end of the year, as I have my A-levels then hopefully get into the uni course I want. Then I'll write a decent ogl engine in fb....

anyway here's controls:
w,a,s,d to move around
mouse to look around
L to turn torch light on/off.
F1 to turn lighting on/off(this is only partially off due to technique used, but it still does give a speed boost).
F2 to take a screen shot.

If you get a message at the bottom saying "This demo actually worked" press enter to continue walking around. Go to one of the corners, and the scripting engine knocks the lights out and makes them flicker, so you'll have to use the torch light to see. There's no gameplay here, but most of you would guess I planned to make a horror game with creepiness like SH. I also wanted an M Night Shyamalan story but anyway......I'm busy. I think that's all I need to say...

Tell me what you think, and the fps you got on what cpu speed, etc... This isn't very well optimized.... the fps is on the top left, I forget what the 2nd number displayed is..

When I run it it just says 'Everything worked fine 395' and exits. Your screenies are broken too :-?

Thats actually kinda cool!

But sometimes the lights go psycho and start flickering on/off.

The framerate was fine here. Very playable.

It seems to draw a second ray gun model at one of my previous locations, though...

nice, runs perfectly smooth here, i got a p3, 128 megs ram.

one suggestion. when you hold 'l' the torch goes on and off extremely fast, you should code it in so that you cant toggle the torch until the button has been released... 'sides that its very sweet =)

It requires EMS to run. Screenshots are working now.

I had EMS enabled (though it was under XP). Still doesn't work. Does anyone know how to enable EMS in DosBox?
