Hypnosis
#11
Quote:well lemme go ahead and disprove all your research: Hypnosis is pure BS. it is a fact that you can't be "hypnotized" unless you are a gullible person willing to believe they are being "hypnotized". what you are reffering to with commercials is subliminal advertising; your brain see's everything in the ad, and only later can you process all of it and realize what you saw in your concious mind. don't believe everything you read on the internet Tongue

and i know these things because i'm in a psychology class, and my brother is majoring in psychology, and we constantly talk about it.
What are you, like 2? X-D

I remember being in complete control the entire time. It was all just a matter of me setting my mind to do what I wanted.

wait a second... THATS NOT WHAT I SAID! :o

Tongue perhaps i was a bit to hasty with my response. for the most part you are right chaos, when you are being "hypnotized", you actually begin to lose consiousness and fall into level 1 sleep, where your brain can send/recieve information more easily, because you are at a more concentrated state. but in some cases, level 2 sleep can be reached. it is very difficult for the brain to send information in this state. so getting someone to do something physical would be near impossible. keep in mind though, you can't even reach level 1 sleep unless you are willing. and actually the best way to do so is to put your hand above your head, and slowly drop it down into your lap, while watching your hand the whole time.
the mind is a beautiful thing, use it and make the world a more beautiful place.

actually those levels are called alpha and theta

normal waking people are in beta stage. only real good monks and maybe a receptive person with a real good hypnotist could go into theta (level 2 as you called it)

that is, willingly. you'll go into theta anytime you get a good nights sleep =) and the cycles dont even have to last that long, hence being able to go like you had 8 hours sleep.

ive even met someone who said that he never really slept, only hypnotised himself (its basically meditation ;p) for like 3-4 hours a day. and that was after id read a lot about it so i was really fascinated.

that guy ended up getting fired from my job tho cuz of sexual harassment hahahah, he was funny as hell tho. i hate tight up people, more need to be loose like that guy ;P

crazily enough, there was also these buddhist monk guys there too, were monks then came to america and like gave it up mostly, lol. one dude smoked so much XD but sometimes they would go off on breaks and meditate o.O

edit: damn i missed my 1337'th post!!!! XD wtf

Hypnosis is really just subconsious suggestion. It is very similar to watching a movie, driving a car, reading a book, that kind of thing. Your mind accepts these things (fpr the short bit of time) as real. That's how you jump at something scary in a film, get anxious during scarey bits of books, can drive a car and suddenly think "when did i take that turn?"
