you may have mis-wired your HD...i did that, and it seemed to "fry" my HD, but it was only the bus(?) cable (not sure if that's what it is...i think it is, though)....replaced it, and made sure the jumper on the HD matched what we plugged it into, and make sure we wired it in correctly (not the slave for main HD)
the type of cable you need (still can't remember the name) isn't much $$ at all, and you could even replace it
that may not be your problem, though....
