After some examination, it looks like an iroffer bot was installed on the account via the viewtopic.php "highlight" exploit in phpBB 2.0.15 (outdated scripts, tsk tsk... ). I have patched the critical script for now and the site should be back up.

while phpBB is targeted because it is so widely used, it is pretty secure as long as you stay on top of the updates :)
