Quake 1 on Windows XP
#11
I never really got into quake.

I beat quake 1 and ive tried all the engines (tenebrae was pretty) but its nothing compared to the original doom, and especially the doom remakes wich may not look as nice but are hundreds of times more entertaining to play.

Quake II was fun online, but single player was boring.
Quake III was an awesome engine, but game was a bit lacking.
Quake IV and Doom 3 gave me temporary blindess with gamma cranked all the way up.(i still couldnt see anything)

Give me original doom and II over these games anyday. except for quake II multiplayer, and some quake 3 mods.

Quote:Yes, because a GeForce2 is soooooo expensive
Trolling, as usual...you never change, do you?

Picked up glquake. Some of the guys on #badlogic gave tenebrae a try and said it's pretty much crap so no sense in even bothering with it.

Well saying you needed $220 for a decent video card was stupid. 99$ gets you a 6600. That will not only run tenebrae, but doom 3, quake 4 and whatever else is gpu hungry these days.

Not at max of course, but it does the job for me.

also tenebrae is not crap, its just runs like shit. it looks like doom 3 basically, but using quake models. and uses ridicoulous amounts of processing power.

Down here, a decent video card is about $220...provided you can even find one. Lest we forget that not everyone lives in the continental USA, and companies rarely like to ship here because they think it's "international", completely forgetting that all imports and exports are under the US flag. Of course you can get a really crap card for about $160...ten year old technology, that is...

"It's not crap although it runs like it"...yup.

Puerto Rico is not on the moon. Lots of websites will ship there. Sure, it's a little bit more expensive, but you chose to live there.

If you can't afford $50 once every 5 years and your computer is really that crappy, just run the DOS version.

How is that flamebait? It's the truth. Newegg will ship a videocard to Puerto Rico for $16. You can get a Geforce4 MX4000 for $50 shipped. Not the greatest card, but it will run Tenebrae and is a lot faster than a TNT2.

If you're willing to spend even $100 you can get something much better.

It makes no sense to complain that you can't run a mod designed for high(er) end computers with a video card that is 6 years old. And then complain that a supported videocard is $220 when in fact you could get one for $50.

I couldn't get a new gfx card if I wanted to. My computer doesn't have an AGP slot, so I'm stuck with the built-in Intel Extreme or whatever crap. Sad
Anyone know where I can get the full version of Quake I? It's just weird that nobody offers it on Kazaa any more.

I have the original disks. I could send the game without the music.
