FreeBasic for DOS
#11
Well, considering that just about anything you do in FB will require a call to a runtime library function, you won't be getting away from needing at least a minimal FB rtlib (and therefore a minimal libc). Of course, if you stripped out all the parts that call rtlib functions, you'd be left with, essentially, C. C is no messier than you make it - the same as FB. In any case, I don't see the utility of writing yet another operating system when there are plenty of perfectly functional ones already available. Also, a quick search of the forum on "QB OS" or similar should be enlightening. Sorry if this sounds flame-ish, but I (and I'm sure many others here) have seen far too many people wanting to write an OS without considering what that entails. In addition, writing an OS would certainly be an educational experience, but I would recommend sticking to a language that was designed for just such a task, among others ©, rather than a high-level language designed for application developers (FB).

The concept of maknig an OS has passed me long ago. I was leaning more toward another utility. But the question has been answered.
