Well from what I heard it is legal to download ANYTHING off the internet, where it becomes ilegal is when you upload or host the songs to other people.

Correct.

Hell, even better:
a) It is legal to make one copy of a title you own for backup or archival purposes.
b) It is NOT ILLEGAL to share the contents of your entire hard drive.

SSC is correct. A person downloading a copied file is not breaking copyright laws because they are not the one who copied the file. The person who made the file available is the one breaking copyright laws.

And everyone should be using OGG now anyways...mp3 is an antiquated, proprietary format that has been superceded by much more powerful formats (like ogg and flac).

What do you recommend for software Nek?

More specifically, what media player do you recommend for the desktop, that supports OGG files with FLAC format? Also, what portable media devices support this format or can be modified easily to do so?

If you can tell me this and if it is helpful to me, I will consider you moderately intellegent.

A great deal of desktop software plays ogg and flac files. Winamp is among them, there's also foobar2000. For a list of portable players that support the ogg format, go here:

For hardware flac players, go here:
