string length question
#21
for those who are wondering:

Quote:2.0 - first version called "quickbasic"
1.1 - crippled free version made from 4.5

now if glenn is right and the first qbasic was called "Microsoft Compiled Basic" then would anyone have a copy? A quick google search reveals that a lot of people, including pc-magazine and ethan winer still refer to it as that.

Compiled Basic." Smile The term "qbasic" didn't appear in the vocabulary until Qbasic was actually released--after QuickBasic was. (The first version of QuickBasic, if *that* term had been in the vocabulary then, was "Microsoft Compiled Basic.")

And no, I don't have a copy of it. (I think I have the first version of Microsoft C, however.)

my apololgies - the first version of a series that, in time, in one incursion would be called "qbasic", as an alternate title for "quickbasic" (bunches of nitpickers).

I'd quibble with "alternate title", but I'm good for a few hours yet.

hehe... now I'm confused... I thought the Q in QB/QBasic/whatever stood for Quick, as in QuickBasic, Quick C, etc... in competition with Borland's Turbo Basic, Turbo C, etc... *scratches head really really hard*

There is:

QB
QBasic
QuickBASIC

Do not mess up the Q's

Qbasic and QuickBasic. "QB" is just the name of QuickBasic's executable for running the interpreter, and thus got to be QuickBasic's de facto abbreviation.
