Legalization of marijuana
#21
Here in New Zealand Marijuana is labeled as a class C drug and carries a conviction if caught using or dealing it. Some parts of our government are propossing that it be decriminlised, in which case it is still illegal to use or deal, but usage of it will not result in a permanent criminal conviction, this is to prevent young teens who try it once and get caught from having a permanent record.

IMHO, Marijuana is less of a problem than alcohol. People often become violent, abusive and dangerous to others (I work as a barman and have some nasty incidents first hand) whereas people who are stoned tend to either giggle lots or sit staring at the ceiling for hours on end. I believe that the same rules should apply for class C drugs that do for alcohol; it should have a minimum age limit, it should be illegal to be under the influence while driving or working and any form of illegitimate trade should be highly illegal.

One of the reasons Marijuana and other drugs are such a problem is because they are illegal, people still want them which forces the dealing and usage of them underground. As law enforcement tightens, the underground market becomes nastier. Crops found by police here are often surrounded by barbed wire, man traps and heavies with weapons are usually not to far off. Making the drug available in stores or as prescription medication will greatly reduce (but not entirely remove) this problem.

Other drugs such as Fantasy, Dachura, LSD, Ectasy and Cocaine should be illegal as their effects are often life-threating to the individual using it, or put the indivudual in a position where they are potentially life threating to others.

I personally do not use drugs, nor do I intend to (My parents acid-hippie experiences have put me right off), but I think that people sometimes need to make decisions based on their own experiences and mistakes, not because a law decrees it so, within reason of course.

for the simple reasons tha potheads gave us Java. Who else would name a coffee type a programming language? potheads!

Actually, they called it Java after discovering that their intended name, Oak, was already a programming language. I believe management were in a Coffee house when deciding what to change the name to.

Yea I think that dope should be strongly regulated along with any other narcotic. They all drain away your money and your life expectancy, which I am not interested in having done to me. There should be only extreme cases when it is legal e.g. you have cancer or some debilitating disease. Just my opinion.
o, let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you are completely sane?! -A.J. Rimmer

As with everything, my friends, having it without measurement is negative. Abusing of *anything* is bad. When I say that I smoke THC derivatives, I don't do it all the time, of course.

Wiz talks about the people he knows that do Marihuana and tells that they are failures. My case is really different. I'm not a failure (I'm next to have my Engineer title, men), nor my friends are. You'll be a failure if you smoke 10 joints a day. We smoke for pleasure when we are at home or we want to have a relaxing sleep, so don't think of us drooling in the streets like stupid zombies or anything.

You men look very conservative, and that's right, 'cause you will live a healthier life. But I've decided not to do that, 'cause I am young and I wanna taste life now, and not regreting that in the future. When I am 60 and I remember my youth, I wanna have actual things to remember. Now it is time to have excesses LOL

And toonski, Marihuana is not that bad as you depict it. I've read many articles. And I haven't find any of them to be objective. People who are for Marihuana tell about some things, and people against marihuana tell about some others. You are clearly against it so it is OK that you describe it as the seventh devil. May a joint be more dangerous than a cigarette, but smoking a joint a day with a friend won't kill you. At least faster than smoking a box of cigarettes as some people do.

Everything comes from measure and intelligence.

And also be aware that it does not cause addiction, but habit. Those are different concepts.

Funny thing I found when I went to the United States for 3 months is that everybody frowned on alcohol (which is the mainstay here of the Brits Tongue) but they would happyily sit around and get stoned.. which is more frowned upon here than getting drunk. Guess it must be a hangover from prohibition, so smoking pot replaced booze as the recreational activity of the younger generation.

I'll quote this, as it represents my POV:
Quote:I'm not a big fan of illegal narcotics because, hey, let's face it; my brain is already too fucked up to begin with. I don't need some weird foreign substances grown in the back of some bearded Linux-using man's toolshed (na_th_an??? [Image: grlaugh.gif]) to help me reach deep psychological conclusions about myself which I could previously not realize without the use of drugs that make me believe there's somebody quietly playing a Casio keyboard in the other room.

My fav drug? Music. And now it's a cronic disease... dammit. Tongue

LOL... Music is also my drug... And well, my roommate is actually playing a Casio - I swear I swear I swear... In my country they say "Los jóvenes están en pañales ante la droga", and some girls and guys appear in diapers doing stupid stuff... Lo divertido es que las chicas en pañales no tienen con qué taparse las vergüenzas superiores... Maybe I have another drugs appart from music... Can you guess what?

Now I have another question... Those who have voted "no" to the legalization... Don't you trust on people's intelligence to decide wether to have them or not? It's clear that you won't be doing dopes, why do you want to force the rest of the world to follow your decision? Just wondering...

One little part of what makes me lean in the direction of not legalizing it (even though I voted "Yes") is that if it ends up putting you in a hospital bed, it's our tax money that's paying to take care of you.
Same with tobacco. *That* should be illegal, totally. Too many people are dying in hospitals from tobacco-related diseases and we're paying for it.

But still, legalize marijuana. But it has to be *very* strictly regulated.
