Notepad Workers...
#1
..Has almost been completed!

I've set up a small website and forum for web designers,
and I've got a small repository of files for everyone to download. Smile
The goal of Notepad Workers is to start a community (kinda like this
one), except instead of programming, it's based around web design!

So tell me what you think about the code or the design.
(I need some feedback on the site so I can improve, be it good or bad!)

Notepad Workers

Thanks all!

Nice site, looks well built.... :winkwink: ... hehe, I like that it's a FireFox special so far too....

btw, I like the n00b comments, tho, I don't think a n00b will ever read them.... XD .... Unless it's a semi-smart n00b.....

considering this is a web design based community you're working towards, i'll be **critical** on the design elements

what i like --
1) validated
2) notepad subject

what i don't like --
1) uses tables
2) white text on black background
3) site not readable when CSS disabled
4) red link on grey background in your footer is impossible to read
5) use of deprecated align tag element
6) lack of padding where the site version is displayed
7) overemphasis of useless information (site created)
8) page begins and ends with horizontal rule
9) use of DIV's for text styling instead of structure
ammit potato!

Thanks for the feeback!

@potato: I'm working my way out of the use of tables to structure
my site, as that I'm currently begining to understand and use <div>
tags with CSS ;-)

Stopped by and made a post... a plug for WAMP really.

Are you planning on acquiring a different forum? Or perhaps mod that one to allow user registration/name protection?

I've got a site in the works that is related to PHP/MySQL development w/ an emphasis on Drupal that I'd be happy to link to from when your site is complete.

wow I'm glad you actually went and made some fixes

what's left
- 1) uses tables
- 5) use of deprecated align tag element
- 9) use of DIV's for text styling instead of structure
(these go together, just get your divs and proprietary tags going and use CSS for the grand finale)

7) overemphasis of useless information
(optional i guess, until you get some more content on the site)

what's new
10) reconsider color scheme
(I mean, blending low value red and grey (i.e., low value black)?
see http://wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html )

11) i validated your CSS, it's ok but still has warnings, fix those
(why? MSIE will break eventually as the warnings pile up)

12) grammar says a lot about design, keep it straight
(nitpicking, but when you see errors on any site, what comes to mind?)

13) The weird monospace font (courier?) clashes with the smooth Arial font A LOT. It even clashes with the rounded corners of the design. Font size, color, weight, placement, and images should be used (in any combination) to make something stand out. Changing font faces is a bit irritating

14) NAVIGATION -- caps, italics, and underline? That's a triple threat.
Underline has been long accepted as "this is a link or book title" so don't use it
Italics should be reserved for emphasizing something
Consider bold or just caps

I'll set 'em up if you keep knockin' 'em down.

Well, you can cross off #'s 12-14!
I ran a spell check of the site, and it came back clean.
(well, except for the word "CSS", apparently it's spelled wrong... )

I fixed up the poor font choice for the header, and modded the "navigation/hosted by" text.

Off to fix up the site some more! :red_marvin:

It looks pretty good, but the text is waaaay too bright, in my opinion. Wink

May I ask, as one that doesn't follow what seems to be personal opinion, what is wrong with using tables? As far as I know it's still valid HTML and XHTML.... And it works.. :???:
