What metal do you listen to?
#41
Everyone knows what I like Wink

Quote:We also play some world famous in New Zealand bands, so most people here might not have heard of Blindspott, Supergroove, Tadpole, Pacifier(Shihad), 8 Foot Sativa, the Datsuns, D4 and the Feelers.

Don't forget Che Fu (but then again, he's not metal Wink), Elemenop etc Wink

I like Che-Fu much better when he was with Supergroove, we dont play stuff like Che-Fu, King Kapisi or Nesian Mystik because they are more hip-hop/rap than rock/metal and Im sick of Elemenop, they get so much radio bashing.

Quote:in my opinion its the completely wrong thing for a DJ to be touching, but then again im not a DJ.
Our club has kind of a niche market, so most of the customers are into Tool (or similar) anyway. Alot of Tool doesn't work because its long and somewhat boring (from a dancing/headbanging point of view), songs like Schism, Parabola, Jimmy and Pushit are all really good songs but just havent got what it takes to play in a club. The songs I play by Tool are Sober, Prison sex(early), Stinkfist, Eulogy(with about 1:00-1:30 cut off the start), 46&2, Hooker(Occasionally) and Aenema.

Quote:Sex Pistols, The Clash. That's punk.
Hey someone else who knows what punk really is. I feel like going off on a rant every time I hear someone say "Im into punk music, like Avril Leverene and Good Charlotte".

Don't say trance is crap or horrible, its a difficult genre of music that has a 99% crap release rate

Ive got a couple of Gatecrasher compilations in my Cd collection, which I listen to every now and then when Im in the right mood, I much prefer stuff that has vocals and is a little more innovative than just boom-chish-boom-chish with a synth over the top of it. I have heard some very cool trance stuff from friends trance vinyl collections.

Quote:Back to the actual topic; don't diss a type of music you don't like, because you just can't (imho) if you don't understand it.
That was the biggest lesson I learned when I started DJing, you have to appreciate music for what it is whether you like it or not. I think some music is just plain crap (unmelodic, poorly constructed), but I still find my self singing along to the occasional pop or even limp bizkit song (damn you ahead of the barricade ;-)).

One of my favorite songs for instance is Careful with that Axe Eugene by Pink Floyd (did anyone else leap out of their skin the first time they heard this?), most people would think its a crap song the first time they heard it, but it kind of grows on you.

I suppose you're right there Smile But I think it's a tribute to the NZ music industry that I even know of a few NZ bands

The only "metal" that I listen to is the loose tailpipe rattling under my old 1988 Volare.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

what's Mallcore/Nu Metal?

Never heard the phrase Mallcore, but nu metal is ussually the garbage stuff like slipknot, system of a down, any kind of band like that (think most metal wanna be bands who dont really know how to play their instruments).

Ussually thats the type of metal most true metal fans dont like to be associated with. Although some of the stuff is okay, and theirs the odd good song or band most of it is uter and useless garbage.

Quote:As nu here is the common pop-music respelling of new, the term pretty much explains itself—it’s a revitalised form of the heavy metal musical genre of the seventies and eighties, a style of loud, vigorous and often harsh-sounding rock music that was linked to an intense and spectacular performing style. Metal drifted out of fashion in the nineties, though it never went away completely.
The nu-metal format is most closely associated with bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, the Deftones, Amen and Papa Roach, and the genre is often linked to the American music producer Ross Robinson, often called “the guru of nu-metal”. The performing style is still as heavily amplified and intense as ever; nu-metal gigs were described recently by Nicholas Barber in the Independent on Sunday as being “costumed, pyrotechnic riots of blood, sweat and earth-shaking volume”, though he also complained that the lyrics were self-pitying and peevish.

This more or less portrays nu-metal accurately(although black sabbath is really a bad choice of influence, since black sabbath are so much better )
