FLU POLL... sort of..
#71
When one of the most respected doctors in the USA tells you "A" and it turns out to be "Z", you lose faith. As happened to me on another "wacky disease-doctor journey".

Well, that settles it then.
Peace cannot be obtained without war. Why? If there is already peace, it is unnecessary for war. If there is no peace, there is already war."

Doctors are human, they make mistakes. But they usually are correct, but you need to use your common sense have take 2nd opionions. Not all doctors are bad, not all are good; thats life..

But would you rather live without the medication they give you? If you can, then don't go to the doctors. I've never taken medication for a cold or flu, because that's how they learn to mutate, and how we make them stronger, just for a little less sniffing. One day we're gonna run out of medicines that stop these bugs (think of penicillin - how useful is that really today against the average cold?), then we'll all get sick every time a bug comes around. However, if I was in lotsa pain then I'd put myself at their mercy, because the alternatives will most likey be better...

Of course, if you're in extreme pain, then take the medicine - it's excellent for addressing one problem fast. The Oriental approach is to address all problems related to the illness, gradually.

That doesn't involve medicine.
But yes, that's an example.

I would need something more concrete than chei to trust eartern medicine. There is a scientific explanation for everything. For example, my uninformed theory:
Accupuncture works by numbing/piercing nerves, thus temporarily relieving pain at the expense of nerve damage.

...That's just something I made up (so nobody should take it too seriously), but it's an infinitely more plausable explanation that chei and mystical energy or whatever. What eastern doctors call energies can probably in reality be explained by circulatory patterns, the manufacture/release/effects of hormones, and lots of other not-so-supernatural stuff.

Supernatural? Since when? Chei is untranslatable. But people usually say "energy". Or do you deny that humans have energy in them?
And the English word "nerve" isn't necessarily the only word, the only meaning. I'm not calling you arrogant, but don't you think it is a little arrogant to assume that everything can only be explained via the method of one's culture? No offense intended, again, Sterling. Big Grin
And people say that there isn't any real cure for cancer, with no side-affects. I can name several people that used Chinese medicine combined with a good diet, and they have no cancer now.

All sterling is saying is that chinese medicine works, but not nessecarily because of the reasons that chinese medicine people give us Smile. It would be naive to assume that anything works the way it does because "so-and-so said", it's better for scientists to look at it in context with what we already know.
