Function of the various QB4.5 files
#61
Good point. Perhaps then we could put a link in the readme to a "qb45 recent examples" zip with files like that in it. It would be seperate and still have the best of the current day in it Smile

Great idea, create a folder named "RECENT" or whatever. And please, this time add credit for the entry that Phobeous and I wrote, that sexy fire effect. I think it is in the package in your site but we are not credited Sad

Isn't it? *adds to list of stuff to do*

Quote:I think that a list of resources and some kind of top-games/applications/GUIs is mandatory, as well as a link to VPlanet. It may be a little bit silent now, but it is QB's gaming central IMHO.

Yes there should be a link to them regardless if they become a mirror, they're no. 1 for reviews.

Mono&Disco, a few 9 liners, p'raps a one-key challenge game or two, and perhaps ZeroG? Anything else?

Right, I've written a readme. Guys, have a read and tell me what you think:

Code:
/***************************************************************************
*
*              Q u i c k B A S I C   4 . 5   R E A D M E
*
***************************************************************************
*
*  If you're reading this then congratulations! You've just successfully
*  downloaded (and installed) QuickBASIC version 4.5! This file will tell
*  you some important things about this version of QuickBASIC, including
*  legal issues and where you can get support.
*
*  DISCLAIMER
*  ----------
*  This package has been put together by members of the QBasic online
*  community to be as close to the origional QB45 package as possible.
*  However, as of the 6th of February 2004, Microsoft's (the origional
*  creator of QuickBASIC) stance on the distrobution of QuickBASIC is
*  unknown. Several members of the community have tried to contact MS
*  about this but to no avail. However unlikely it may be that Microsoft
*  would one day start prosecuting people who have downloaded a version
*  of QuickBASIC, because their stance is unknown you should be aware
*  that there is the possibility. For more information on this issue,
*  please visit the following link:
*

*
*  COMMUNITY
*  ---------
*  Contrary to popular belief, there is a thriving, active QBasic
*  community on the web, discussing all aspects of Q and Quick BASIC
*  and offering support to whoever asks. You can find a list of
*  active QuickBASIC sites at the following address:

*  A note about www.qbasic.com: This site is no longer updated anymore,
*  and has not been updated for some time. However at the above address
*  you can find many active QuickBASIC sites with all the latest downloads,
*  news and advances in QuickBASIC.
*
*  THIS ARCHIVE
*  ------------
*  As in the above disclaimer, this archive is as close to the origional
*  version of QuickBASIC 4.5 as the community has been able to manage.
*  In it you will find the origional tutorials from the developers of
*  QuickBASIC, which you will not find in other QB4.5 archives.
*
*  This archive is MIRRORED at other active QuickBASIC sites on the 'net.
*  If you download your archive from one of these places you will be

I think this one is fine. When you are done tell me and we'll mirror it in the Basic Network.

What I am missing is more post of you webmasters that visit this place. Zack, Rockuman, Jocke, SumoJo, Zap... (etcetera)... Will you mirror this package as well?

If there's no complaints (ie if Jark is happy :lolSmile that'll be the final readme. So anyone who wants to be a mirror when the package is released better post here quickly Wink

BEING A MIRROR:

If you want to be a mirror, here's your responsibilities:

* You must not change the package from what it is when you get it for the first time.

* You can also host the examples package if you want, but you don't have to. Of course, you can't change it.

* As more people become mirrors/stop being mirrors, the list in the README.TXT file will change. Every now and then I'll be sending out a new readme, which you'll have to change with the old one and upload.

* You must keep me informed of the direct link to the archive(s) (or tell me if it's in a database), the link to the page where you can download the archive(s) from on your site, and inform me if you wish to stop being a mirror (so I don't keep checking your site and bombarding you with emails). Your direct link should remain CONSTANT - for example you'll always have it at yoursite.com/qb45.zip. This link will not go in the readme - I'll just use it for checking to see that you're hosting it. If you do have to change it, just contact me. On the other hand, changing the link to your downloads page is up to you (it's your site Wink), I'd appreciate an email all the same.

* If you're a mirror, your name will go in the Readme. Think of the advertising - QB45 has been downloaded from QBNZ nearly 2,000 times since I started counting about 3 months ago!

* If you accept all the above, you can either:

-- Post here with your proposed direct url, link to your downloads page and your name as you want it in the readme.

-- Email me the above details - email them to webmaster@qbnz.com

__

I still have a bit of rewriting to do (where it says "above link" it seems to refer to qbasic.com as a source of the latest stuff!), but I think it's fine apart from that.

Nath: I'll need the direct link/downloads page link from you Smile
