No point in opening another PS question thread, so...
If I'm making link buttons for a navbar, and I want all my text to be centred in the same place on each image, how can I tell where to put my text? For instance, with MSPAINT I would do it by using the grid...And I know I can do that with photoshop, too, but can I make the gridlines stay for each image, or do I have to draw them all over again?

Link the text to its button image (link by clicking the empty boxes next to the layer name in the layers window)
Then, using the MOVE tool (arrow with crosshairs), click the buttons in your toolbar . There's vertical align and horizontal align.

If you're on PS5 or lower, you'll have to use the Layers menu to ALIGN -> Horizontal, Vertical.

there's also distribute commands, where you can space out things evenly, automatically. If you prefer to do things by hand, go ahread and turn on the grid (window or view menu, i think, Show-> grid)
to adjust grid, EDIT -> PREFERENCES -> GRID

OK, now a transparency problem:
These are basically the steps I used:
1) Made a new image, 100x25
2) Added text
3) The little box with the eye that denotes transparency beside the background layer...I un-checked it.
I load it up in IE, and it isn't transparent...

Are you saving it in GIF format? You should be able to just erase a color, and it will be considered transparent..
