Petition to Microsoft
#21
One small signature page is useless. If you sent 100 emails asking for the source, it would be a lot more effective.
i]"I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum ... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"[/i] - Dirty Harry

i was thinking at first of a email petition (you know, make an email, asking ppl to sign their name and send it to everyone they know) it WOULD be effective...

LOL.....

Didn't notice that.

My message is still not a formal petition, though..
Peace cannot be obtained without war. Why? If there is already peace, it is unnecessary for war. If there is no peace, there is already war."

No, because an email with 100 names on it is as ineffective as an email with a petition sheet with 100 names on it. Microsoft gets thousands of requests a day. They will filter out 100 messages from the same guy, and file out a single request in an email. There isnt a loving citizen who reads the emails and thinks hard about it. If you want your source code, you need a lot of emails. You need a significant portion of those emails to say 'We want the QB source' And then send it every day. That's how you get attention.

This is bad - there are many people now, just using this Petition as a MS-bashing funhouse, in the hope that Microsoft will actually see it.
I don't think that'll make us look better in their eyes. It weakens our chances of success.

Quote:131. Stephen Colburn Microsoft please keep QBASIC to yourself. It sucks, and you shouldn't release it to the general public. Thank you.

 Thanks Steve....

Nice person!
Also I think you might find we may get more success if some of use write to ms personally as company's usually respond to letters etc more than petition signings!
