Hmmm. I got Photoshop 5 in 2000. I installed it and began to play with it. Everything I know I've learned it by myself. So it can't be hard, mostly 'cause I am far from a genius...

Any powerful tool is cryptic if you don't know how to use it. But it is self explanatory. Just play around. Click some buttons, make layers. After a short, short awhile it should be familiar to you.

I...shall we say, acquired....Photoshop 7 a few months ago. It took me a month to figure out one concept: layers. Past that, I just needed to know in what menus were things located.
A lot of things in Photoshop you'll find you never use. Like, all the brushes...man...I use about three of them. Tongue

I use plenty of them Smile For direct illustration. You can make marvels with those brushes.

As time goes by, I use more and more of the stuff PS provides.

Methinks some of us slag Gimp because it's the biggest piece of crap ever laid to binary. Tongue

I think that people who prefer Gimp instead of Photoshop are like people who prefer VI instead of Ultraedit or Editplus... So, no use arguing, Nek Tongue

I'm afraid I'll take that comment with a piece of salt until you can present evidence proving why Wink

And it's no use, na_th, judging GIMP by your experiences in windows with it. Although PSP may be a powerful application, show me a free gfx program with more power than the gimp Wink

Comparing freeware graphics programs to the big dog commercial programs is like comparing Black Cats to Tomahawk Cruise missles. You're just not going to get the same quality out of a freeware program, no matter how good you think it is or how much loyalty you have to it (as you are blindly loyal to Gimp, oracle).

Gimp eats ass for many reasons, but the biggest thing I hated it for is the total lack of interface standardization. Then again, this is a major issue all throughout Linux. I found Gimp to be quite weak in things that programs like Photoshop handle with great ease (layer handling, histogram functions, mathematics, etc). I did like the standard plugin in Gimp that lets you make cool logos Smile but unfortunately, you can tell when you see a website using one. What it boiled down to was that everything you can do in Gimp, you can do far better in Photoshop or any other high-end commercial product. The lack of a decent graphics editor is one of the reasons I ditched Linux and went back to Windows.

I use Paintshop Pro 7. Vastly more powerful than MSPaint, but lacking enough high-end functions to make it idiot-friendly enough for people like me to jump in and use Smile
In a world without walls and doors, who needs Windows and Gates?
